How can I loop audio in realtime?

What software should I use to replicate the delay/looping effect that this video employs? I would need a metronome monitor separate from the input mix. It would be amazing to tweak the length of the decay too. http://vimeo.com/7722804 I looked at the Vimeo comments and found some helpful information. But I would like to hear of any other software suggestions people have. I do not have access to Ableton Live. I'm a classical musician wanting to experiment with realtime looping.

How to auto select loop in audio track?

Any way of automatically selecting an audio loop in Audacity or some other app? I have a bunch of video game tracks (NES/SNES) that loop (obviously) but the tracks I have don't end at the loop's end (and they also fade out at the end). I would like to loop these tracks. But this is hard. These tracks are really good but I fear that once I'm done with the tracks I won't want to listen to them anymore.

So, I'm thinking it would save a lot of time if there was an quick way to get a rough cut of where the loop in the track is and just go from there.

I've used Audacity a little to cut and join. Commercial software suggestions could be good as a future reference but I'd prefer free.

I had probably found it in a Twitter link, and I thought it would be easy to find again. Wrong: Twitter search, Google, flickr: nothing.

Wordpress: What's the easiest way to display the "mini-loop" on any page? I currently use simplepie to display what's basically the rss feed on a static front page. For the front page, though, I'd like to move away from that solution because the excerpts are funky, you can't have paragraph breaks, you can't have links, etc.

For inside pages, I'd like a clean solution that gives me static content on a particular page, but also displays truncated posts -- and this is key -- with the Zebra page showing only posts in Category Zebra, the Aardvark page showing only posts in category Aardvark, etc.

I can't do much with php beyond copying and pasting as directed, so speak slowly Thanks for any ideas!

Birthday dinner near the Chicago Theatre?

ChicagoFilter: For his birthday, I am taking my husband to the live taping of This American Life at the Chicago Theatre. Where should we eat beforehand? I can't afford to splurge, so it will have to be a medium-priced restaurant (whatever that is for downtown Chicago). I would prefer that it be walking distance to the theatre so we only have to park once. Parking suggestions are very welcome.

His favorite foods are steak, ribs, and lasagna. He'd prefer a nice-but-not-overly-fussy atmosphere. Must serve hard liquor.

Please recommend a restaurant in downtown Chicago. A friend and I would like to get dinner together; the problem being that he lives in Hyde Park and I live in Rogers Park. I'm looking for a restaurant that splits the distance between our two neighborhoods, but neither of us knows the downtown area too well. I'm aware of Rush Street; any particular restaurants to check out? I would especially like a restaurant that isn't very expensive, is not the typical tourist-trap fare, and is the sort of place where one can have a conversation without have to shout to be heard. All sorts of cuisine recommendations are welcome. Bonus points for easy walking distance from/to the Red Line.

Trying to find good music with end-of-the-song refrain loops. I'm trying to find good songs like Tupac's "Lost Souls" where at the end of the song the refrain gets repeated again and again. Scarface & The Product also have a song called "G Type" that is an ideal type of this. The last 45 seconds of the song is the music playing and the repeat of the refrain and it sounds like it could go on forever.

Sia's "Where I Belong" does this as well - the last 1:42 is the refrain repeated again and again, sung in different ways.

I might loop the file so it goes on for a half hour, I'm not sure yet, but I'm looking for good songs like this.

I'm wanting to avoid metal, country or r&b if possible. Whatcha got for me hive mind?

Mac OS X / Excel problem - recovered file causing endless crashing

Mac OS X / Microsoft Office 2004 (Excel) crash and failed file recovery has left excel in an endless loop of restore and crash. Can anyone help me to find and delete the (unwanted) auto-saved excel sheet that is causing this problem? The problem started when I imported a tab-delimited text file into excel. Upon import the entire program crashed with an error message "SYLK: file format is not valid". On it's own that would not be a big deal, and some googling suggests that it is a fairly common problem when dealing with non-excel formatted sheets, but the problem does not end there.

When I attempt to restart excel it 'helpfully' attempts to recover my file (whether I tick the "recover my work" check box or not) and then continues to be felled by the same bug/error and after displaying the "SYLK: file format is not valid" error it then exits again.

I am happy to lose the recovered file completely, but I don't know where to find it or how to force excel to ignore it. The file name that seems to be crashing it is "Workbook3 (version 1).xls [Recovered]". I have searched in Spotlight and (perhaps predictably) can't find anything by that name.

Any and all help gratefully received!

Where to dump mom?

Where can I dump my mom for a couple of hours in the Chicago Loop Long story short, my mom's visiting from out of town, my power is still out, and I'm somewhat stuck at work. Given that she likes museums, libraries, etc, where can I dump her for a couple of hours until I can get off.

How can I make a seamless FLV Video loop using flash cs3? Also! How can I put a title in the playback bar? I'd like to be able to loop back video playback seamlessly on my website. I was able to get the video to loop but there seems to be a slight delay during the loop. Is there any way to fix this?

Chicagofilter: West Loop 101. I live here, now what? I lived until recently in Humboldt Park. Ms Vegetable (she objects to being called Ms Meat) and I never spent a lot of time downtown, and now we find ourselves living at about Adams (200S) and Jefferson (600W). It's pretty intimidating. We're looking for neighborhoody restaurants and hangouts like we had back in the north west. Around here I see tons of chains and uber-expensive joints. Everyone likes live music, but we cherish places that we can talk to friends rather than yell. Where should we be looking to be regulars? Is there a neighborhood scene around us or has downtown sucked it up? Other general our-area recommendations are of course welcome.

Looking for a sampler/looper/track recorder for OSX. I want to make my own version of Jay-Z's The Black Album using the Jay-Z construction set (yes I know we've had enough versions of TBA...) so I am looking for a program for OSX that i can feed MP3's into and grab segments, then loop, speed up/down, layer tracks, etc.

I don't think Garage Band works with MP3's and this sort of sampling, and I don't want something as heavy as Pro Tools.

I'm moving to Chicago with my fiancé in August. We're looking for a two bedroom that we won't regret. Oh, and we're poor as hell. Is it even possible to find a two bedroom for less than $1,000? Inside is a list of more particular criteria. We want to find whatever meets the most of the following criteria:

--Two bedroom, but a one bedroom is a possibility
--Allows a cat and a bunny
--Near a grocery (preferably a local one with international selections)
--As close to $1,000 a month as possible, preferably less
--As safe as possible
--Within 30-45 minutes of the loop
--Near public transportation
--Being able to bike to a park or the lake would be a bonus
--Near restaurants / cafes etc. also a bonus

Comments about what to avoid are also welcome, as we know little about Chicago aside from the touristy stuff.

The goal is to meet as many of these criteria as possible, but with our budget we're used to not finding exactly what we want.

Many Other threadshave had good answers, but nothing that quite answered my questions for me.

How do I loop through a bunch of controls using VBA in Excel 2003? I have a sheet w/ a bunch of option buttons on it. I would like to be able to use a loop and set their values.

So,

I have a bunch of OBs named OptionButton1, OptionButton2, etc...

I want to do something like...

Unfortunately the collection "CONTROLS" seems to be available only in VB and not in VBA... Can someone help?

What video player will allow me to loop a specific section of an AVI video? I've downloaded a few guitar instruction videos to my PC (Windows) and they're in AVI or DIVX format. I have to continually repeat small sections to catch what the guitarist is doing and sliding that little reverse bar on Windows Media Player is just not working well for me. Is there a player that will allow me to set a start and end point and have the section play in a continual loop?

How to Pick a Doc in a HMO/PPO? Chicago Loop Recommendations?

A twofold question, both procedural and specific, about doctors, insurance plans, choices, research, and, optionally, the downtown Chicago Loop area. The specific aspect of the question: does anyone have a recommendation for a general practicioner or internist (what's the difference between the two?) who has an office in the downtown Loop area (and I do mean strictly in the Loop, as I need to be able to schedule an appointment on a lunch hour)? And, if you do have a recommendation, what do you like about them?

The procedural aspect of the question: assume I've taken a list of doctors from my insurance company's database and narrowed it down by my geographic requirements above already. By what method and using what resources can I take this list and gain enough information about their temperment, demeanor, and "bedside manner" to make a choice I'll be happy with?

Are you diabetic and see an endocrinologist that you're happy with in downtown Chicago? I have a friend who lives and works in downtown Chicago, and very much needs to find a good endocrinologist in the downtown area, as he is extremely dissatisfied with his current one.

He is currently dealing with Type II diabetes, although he is concerned he may be heading into Type I diabetes.

(His health insurance is BlueCross BlueShield PPO, which means that most endocrinologists will probably be in the plan.)

If you have any questions, I will relay your queries to him and convey his responses to the list. Much thanks in advance.

ID the song that uses this synth loop sample

Identify what current song uses this synthesizer loop from a 20-year-old song. One of the WREK shows that I listen to religiously is Personality Crisis, which airs on Sunday nights 10pm-12am (but I never listen live, going with the on-demand archive instead). This week the DJ played an old song by Soft Verdict which I hadn't heard before but which is built around a synthesizer loop that I immediately recognized from a more current song. I can't place it, but the current song starts with the same loop (sampled) and then, as I recall, breaks into short segments of slow tempo rock drums with lots of stop/start dynamics (which causes it to rawk). The original has no drums.

You can hear what I'm talking about as follows:
Step 1a. Go to the 128 kbps mp3 stream playlist and then skip to the 3rd chunk (Sun2300).
or
Step 1b. Download the 30 minute show segment of interest (28 MB)
then
Step 2: fast forward to the 16:30 mark (in the 30:00 minute chunk)

It might not be a very current song. I'm thinking it might be Amon Tobin from a few years ago, or perhaps something from NinjaTune. Anyone?

What is the source of the sample in this audio file?(514k MP3 file) I know I've heard the original song before, I just don't know the name of it. The song that this snippet comes from is "Pots and Pans" by Fila Brazillia, but that short vocal loop is something else entirely. Help me ID it!
