How do you set good long-term goals if your values shift over time?

It’s a simple question, but one I’ve been thinking a lot about recently. As I’ve grown, what I want out of life has changed dramatically. As a very goal-oriented person who takes a long-term view, I’m struggling to understanding how to set good life goals given that I know my perspectives will shift with time. [more inside]

Time to end a 7+ year relationship?

Been together since we were kids, we're both now 25. The relationship isn't awful but it is a long way from perfect. Living together and trying to cope with past cheating, feel like I need to decide whether or not to give it everything and try to make it work or cut our losses. [more inside]

Please advise about this guy I am stuck on

Hello I am a lady in her late 30s and until 3 weeks ago, in a long-term relationship (12 years). We were not married and had no kids, and lived together for a decade. My ex and I shared a deep understanding, laughs and interests, and I thought this was enough until I met a younger guy a few months ago, for whom I immediately felt a crazy infatuation. [more inside]

How do normal people deal with the loss of infatuation in a partner?

Due to dysfunctional upbringing, I am overly sensitive to any signs that might indicate rejection. I know this, but I don't know how to deal with it. Now my partner seems to be losing interest and I don't know if this is part of the normal development of the relationship or a sign to bail before I get hurt. [more inside]

Housing and hotels in Vancouver, BC!

Why is it so hard to find a women interested in long-term relationship?

I'm a male in my late 20's who's having trouble finding a woman to settle down with. I keep getting attracted to/and attracting women who are either not interested in serious relationships (only casual/physical relationships) or have some self-esteem issues/other problems that makes them very unstable/emotionally fluctuating. I wouldn't describe myself as overly attractive (very average looks and slim build) or promiscuous, so I'm kind of puzzled by how and why these women feel attracted to me. [more inside]

Can you help me understand the end of my 2.5 year relationship?

How do I move past this constant feeling of regret and sadness? I blame myself, we mutually ended a 2.5 year long term and long distance relationship (UK and Canada). I can't believe she's gone from my life, we decided to go No Contact because I read that it is the healthiest thing to do and she's just gone, I can't comprehend it. I'm [M 22], she's [F21]. This was my first relationship with anyone and her second. I'm so inexperienced and that's why I feel that I messed everything up. I keep thinking about all the happy memories we shared together, I can't get them out of my head. It feels like we came to a permanent solution to a temporary problem, it was so sudden. I guess I'm looking for validation by asking this question which is probably a bit cheap so I apologise for it. I know I should just let this all go, but it isn't easy, I've never had a break up before. I really want closure but I know that will have to come from me. [more inside]

Dating someone but it's not as fun as I'd like it to be

I've recently had my fourth date with a guy that I met online. Whilst I feel a definite connection with him, and there's a 'spark' so to speak, I don't feel like we have loads to talk about, or that the conversation flows as naturally as it could, and I also don't feel like we have as much silly fun as I'd like to have. Is this the kind of thing that could grow with time...? More details below. [more inside]

Long-term Storage in Brooklyn, NY

As I said in my last post, I'm packing up and hitting the road to travel the world for a year. I have a one bedroom apartment full of stuff in Brooklyn Heights, NY that I need to store. I'm going to try to pare down as much as possible, but I have nice furniture that I paid a good amount of money for and like, as well as art and books, much of which I want to keep. Having done some quick searching online, it definitely appears to make sense to store much of my furniture from my cost/benefit point of view, versus buying all new furniture at similar prices to what I previously spent when I get back. I'm looking for climate controlled storage for a large one bedroom worth of stuff, anywhere in the NYC area. [more inside]

A permanent condition goes away. What's next?

After twenty years of twice-weekly migraines, Topamax has halted them completely for me; nary even a minor headache in three months. People with narcolepsy (and others with less severe sleep issues) have found a wonder drug in Provigil. Severe snorers, suffering from sleep apnea, arise from sleep studies on CPAP wondering what this strange "awake" feeling is. Cataracts disappear and vision returns. And then there's that other drug, so beloved by spammers.

What happens when a medical treatment truly changes your life? How does your life change when you've grown used to a condition over the span of years, and then in a matter of days it lifts? Any stories?

Why aren't Mars landers designed to last longer?

With all the Mars Lander attempts going on, I keep wondering why these progams spend years to design and reach mars, but design landers that last only for 2 weeks (in the case of path finder in '97) and 3 mos for the new crop of 'bots.

With all the trouble and odds against landing them on Mars, would it be that tough to design them to last a whole lot longer?
