I graduated three years ago, and have spent most of the time since in healthcare/pharmaceutical PR. I loathe it. I want to sign up for an intensive Rails course, but I'm not sure if I should make the leap! [more inside]
[UK Job Hunting] I'm looking for a new job and my usual roster of recruitment agencies and contacts are failing to come up with anything either interesting, in London or at my level of seniority. If you were hunting for a senior position role in London right now, what places/companies/services would you be using or doing? [more inside]
I'd like to work in London but I have no idea where to start! I'm a British citizen, age 30, but I've grown up in Australia. I'm looking for any kind of work that pays the bills. Policy work would be especially nice (I have some experience there) but temping/office jobs would be fine too. Can you recommend me some agencies and websites where I can start, and also any other hints and tips for first-timers to the London/UK job market! Thank you!

I've recently completed a PhD in the UK and will be applying for a Tier 1 Post-Study Work visa. I need to do this in person and it needs to be done by the end of next week but I can't get an appointment online and the Home Office advice line is unable to provide any further information. Help? In six months time, I'm going to move to London (from Wakefield, West Yorkshire). A few of friends of mine (housemate, old friend, college friend) plan to get a house/flat together. I graduated this Summer (BA (Hons) English & Creative Writing), and am working in a bar and doing freelance web design in the meantime. I want to know what I should be doing now to get ready; when and where should I start looking for a Real Job, and when and where should I look for places to live? Does anybody have any other advice for migrating to the big smoke?
