My husband and I have a business trip to London in a couple of weeks and have tacked on some free time because OF COURSE. We would be so grateful if you would help us make the most of two and a half days! [more inside]
I eat out in London loads, but every year I struggle to find a place to host a birthday dinner - please rec me somewhere central where I can book a table for 8. Off-menu requests inside. [more inside]
We are a couple in mid 20s first time visiting London for 6 nights (Sept 18 - 24) and looking for recommendations for things to do in the evenings. More details below the fold. [more inside]
I haven't been to the dentist in over ten years on account of intense terror at even the thought, but I definitely need to bite the scary bullet now. Can you please recommend a kind and understanding, non-judgmental dentist in London? Preferably in the South West, and NHS if possible. I would be happiest I think with somewhere I can have conscious sedation. Thank you!
I've recently decided I need a little help and would like some suggestions please. [more inside]
I'm booking business travel for someone who needs a hotel at Heathrow that is very, very easy to reach from Terminal 2. I've been there before and know it's a huge area with many hotels that can be reached via a variety of buses. I'm a seasoned traveler myself and with a tired brain had a hard time finding the hotel I used the last time I was there. [more inside]
We're flying into Gatwick on a Friday morning in October and heading out Sunday to visit family in Cardiff. Looking for advice on everything in between. Where to stay? Where to eat? What to do? And how to get around? [more inside]
My friend is looking for a glass kettle, not a plastic job from a supermarket, something pretty. I wondered if you had any suggestions?
So I'm about to take my son to London on a father and son trip. We've been once before and loved it. We went on the river bus, to the Natural History Museum (scary animatronic T-rex!), Science Museum and to Grenwich to see the Cutty Sark. We saw the changing of the guard. We had a WHALE of a time. [more inside]
My kids (six and eight years old) want to see Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, but the recommended age on the website is 10 years old. I'm trying to avoid spoilers, so I'm reluctant to do too much googling on this. And I'd strongly prefer to see the play before I read the text. So, I'm hoping some MeFites have seen the play and can advise. How would you say it compares in scariness and overall intensity to (for example) the Harry Potter movies? [more inside]
Hello. I just got confirmation from my Uni that their accommodations are setting me up with a flat in Shadwell. It was my 3rd choice and 2 trains from my college. But just reading online, I didn't realize that Shadwell doesn't have a good reputation, has had some violent crime in recent months and has some... 'Extremist' possible group activities going on there. Therefore I was wondering if anyone has any feedback, insight or experiences w/ this and these neighborhoods in the SE London/Lewisham area who can let me know which may be better options? Here is a map link to my Flat/Dorm building. [more inside]
The park near where we live has many tall plane trees. There's a playground where my children often play. One plane tree has a lateral branch over the playground that's ideal for a rope swing. I'm considering just doing it. [more inside]
Can you recommend either a car service or a car booking agency to take me from Terminal 3 at Heathrow to central London? [more inside]
Asking for a friend who is a fit 65 and is needs casual employment as a cleaner. The catch: she has no formal cleaning experience or references. What central London agencies might hire without experience and/or offer training? [more inside]
We live outside the UK. We're going to be in London from this Sunday to Wednesday. We want to take advantage of the sales without wasting time that could be better used sightseeing. Are the sales still on in the places we want to shop? Is Oxford Street as good as anywhere for our purposes? [more inside]
Quirky places for an ephemera and sign-loving graphic designer visiting Edinburgh, Yorkshire, London, Paris, Barcelona, and Stuttgart? [more inside]
I need implants for some very visible teeth. A bone graft is probably required. I've priced the top of the market, but can I get better value elsewhere---maybe even outside the UK? [more inside]
Where in London can I look over an interesting list of high-quality loose-leaf teas, have one prepared for me at the proper temperature and brewing time, and then sit down and enjoy it on the premises? [more inside]
Where can I get pretty glasses in London? [more inside]
I'm in London in September and wondering if it's worthwhile to attend the New Scientist Live exhibition. There's a 4-day pass available and a variety of single-day passes. Anyone been to this in the past? What was it like?
I will possibly be in London in August, and would like to take the time to not only see Oxford, but to spend a day or two in a smaller, more peaceful town or village. What are my best options? [more inside]
A friend just bought two tickets for The Book Of Mormon tomorrow night in London which she now won't be able to use. I've looked at the nonprofit ticket exchange sites but they don't necessarily seem to be up to date or geared towards theatregoers. Can anyone recommend, from personal experience, the best site to turn this around in about 24 hours?
We've got 6 days, a car, and an unlimited appetite for adventure and beauty. Where should we visit if we're bumming around in the area/countryside between London and Cornwall? Open to suggestions for delicious places to eat and lovely places to stay as well.
Is it feasible to commute from Bethnal Green to Peckham Road, Camberwell? [more inside]

Myself and my girlfriend have an unexpected day and night in London, England tomorrow (Saturday, May 28). What should we do and where should we stay? [more inside]
I am a Canadian visiting in London England, staying at an AirBnB near Baker Street Station. I have bone spurs/ osteoarthritis in both knees, usually very manageable. On Monday I suddenly developed crippling pain in the right knee. Rest and ice stopped it-- but normal walking soon triggered it again Since then I've been using ice, my knee brace, Naproxen and/or Voltaren and of course *long*periods of rest but in fact the pain is getting worse. It is more and more easily triggered. Yesterday I rested the entire day and did nothing but walk a few blocks in total to go for dinner, and tonight I woke myself just from the pain of a wrong movement [more inside]
I'm in the market for a new computer mouse, and I want to be able to actually try it out for a few minutes before I buy it, just to make sure it feels comfortable in my hand. I'm currently in London, and I'll be in the Washington, DC area in a few weeks. Is there any store in either city that has a wide variety of mice out of their packages and available for customer use?
I will be in London this Friday and am looking for a good place to go for a good, inexpensive curry for lunch, probably in the Brick Lane area, but could be anywhere central. [more inside]
I've really wanted a tattoo tribute to my favourite artist for several years now, but I am stuggling to find someone who can do it for me, in her style, ideally in London. [more inside]
Following the election of a Muslim mayor in London, I've seen lots of bigotry on-line along the lines of 'no Muslim country would elect a Christian mayor'. I know this isn't true, so I'm looking for the names of successful Christian politicians in Muslim countries. I know Lebanon has had a Christian president, and Pakistan has a Christian minister of shipping, but I need more please! THANKS MEFIS!
Romantic evening in London in mid-May. I'd like some recommendations on classy restaurants. [more inside]
I'm taking a last-minute trip to Europe in a few weeks and will be flying into and out of Berlin. I'll only be there for 9 days, so it's a pretty quick trip, but I'll be hitting Munich and London while I'm there. Do you have any great suggestions for these cities? Some extra details inside. [more inside]
My friend is getting married this week, yay! I didn't get her a present originally because it's a destination wedding, but I've changed my mind and really want to get her and her hubby something nice that would be an "experience" (like a night out or something). What London-based thing (i.e. gift cert to a hip restaurant) can I get her? Needs to be something I can buy online, as I'm not in London. [more inside]
I have to take a bike from Angel to Paddington train station this Sunday afternoon. I've never cycled in London before or taken a bike on the tube. Please help me figure how to do this with both the bike and me in one piece at the end of it. [more inside]
I've lived in New York and Boston and Sydney; I've spent time in France, Greece, Germany, and even a week in Manchester; I've been through Heathrow many times, but I've never set foot in London proper. And now I'm heading to Germany on Friday, and have another layover in Heathrow. But this time it's different: I have a six hour layover, a US passport, and a single carry-on bag, nothing checked. Help me do this. [more inside]
We're staying in London late August/early September. We want to see the Cotswolds and West Sussex. We're thinking overnight trips where we take a train out of London and then get around by bike might be more fun than renting a car and driving around. Is this plausible? [more inside]
I've procrastinated, and am just now getting to look into shows to take a theatre-mad friend to who is visiting London NEXT WEEK. Help? [more inside]
I am taking my family to London for two weeks this summer.....what is a MUST BUY? [more inside]
I'm planning a three to six month stay in London, but hotel and guest house prices are heartbreaking in this city. Is there anywhere adjacent to London where I can lodge and still enjoy my visit? [more inside]
My 30th birthday is at the end of June, and I am planning an apocalyptic themed birthday party and want to find a venue that looks as much like a bunker/basement/vault/fallout shelter as possible. I live in London and would prefer somewhere South or East. However, this is proving to be difficult. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
Spending two weeks in late August in London, with a couple of trips to castles and stone circles and historical re-enactments out of town. What London neighborhood should we stay in? We like places with flavor. [more inside]
I'm going to be in London this weekend, and I would like to see a good play. There’s obviously a lot of great theater in the city, & I’m curious about both The Painkiller (Rob Brydon!), and The Master Builder (Ralph Fiennes!) but I don’t want to be over-awed by celebrity names. What would be a really good theater piece for me to see? Stuff that is experimental or in a basement back room, etc., is all just fine. Thanks!
My husband and I are heading to London for vacation in a few weeks. Both of us have already seen the big sights on previous trips. We have some ideas about what to do, and we have some Premier League tickets we're very excited about, but we're looking for additional suggestions. We're also wondering where we should eat, and whether there are any good day trips we should consider. [more inside]
I need help choosing whether to go to London with a day trip to Paris or stay in Paris the entire trip on our family vacation this summer. [more inside]
Traveling to Europe for the first time ever, and I'm super excited! Have most of a plan mapped out, but not sure on details and would appreciate any advice. [more inside]
Short of Priceline, are there any ways to regularly get cheap last-minute airfares to Western/ Central Europe for a single traveler? I have a job that sometimes allows me to work remotely, and I'd love to leverage that by hopping off to Europe every so often. I'd be happy to fly on last-minute notice, without a lot of luggage. I have relatively easy access to EWR and JFK. [more inside]
I'm trying to relocate a vegetarian restaurant I used to eat at in London, about 7 years ago. It's located in a trendy shopping district, which was unusual since the food and decor was very casual. The food style is homecooked, specials only, a few each day. You order in the front then take your tray to a seat. Seating had an unusual feature, a small nook in the back for private dining (maybe in an area with lowered ceiling.) Does this restaurant still exist?
I've recently moved to London and have heard only horror stories about neglectful landlords and agencies. After a couple of months here, our flat has required major repairs (due to neglect of previous tenants) and the agency has been responsive about getting them done. By being vocal with the disrepair of the house, are we setting ourselves up for a drastic rent increase, termination of tenancy, or a reputation for being too needy for future lettings references? [more inside]
For Mr. Rose Selavy's birthday I want to take him somewhere for the night, somewhere dark and luxurious and indulgent - http://thewitchery.com would be our dream. Except we can't get to Edinburgh so am looking closer to home - London or south east England. [more inside]
