I have volunteered to help my university procure gifts for speakers and alumni who come to campus to recruit students. What are some good commemorative gifts you have received? The recipients of these gifts will range from billionaire CEOs to middle managers. Due to budgetary constraints, I am imagining gifts under $25. However, I would like to find gifts that are useful and appreciated, so t-shirts and ceramic mugs are not what I had in mind. I was thinking of products along the lines of mini-Leatherman, LL Bean tote bags, or travel mugs.

What are some good gifts you have received and enjoyed that fit this criteria?

Does anyone remember a site that had symbols for designing a comprehensive logo reflecting one's sexual practices and orientation? Some time ago, a friend of mine had a site bookmarked that had small images designed to be combined to show what sexual practices someone enjoyed, including instructions for indicating whether the person preferred to "give or receive.".

My friend wanted to design a tattoo around the idea, and having the original site would help. Does anyone remember seeing anything like that?

Movies with symbols replacing letters in their logos?

I'm looking to find or generate a list of movies whose logo/font includes at least one symbol replacing a letter. For instance, Night Shift replaces the "i"s with footprints, and more famously Ghostbusters replaces the O with the "no ghosts" icon. Bonus points if the symbol is a dollar sign. I've already trolled through boxofficereport.com's logo archive, but unfortunately it only goes back about 10 years and didn't yield much.

I have the Gimp, I have the fonts, I have the desire, but what I don't have is a clue as to recreating the Indiana Jones logo style. I'm not an artist and I don't have Photoshop, so this has been frustrating to say the least. There are a couple of Photoshop tutorials on the web but nothing Gimp-specific. Trying to follow them has produced less than satisfactory results given the differences and my lack of skill. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Please help me find some old logos that incorporated some kind of a globe!

Please help me find some old logos that incorporated some kind of a globe! I've been trying to do some research into some old logos that use either a globe as the main logomark like this or an extended variant like this.

I need the best (fastest, simplest) MAC-capable software for adding a logo to a photo and printing borderless. I'm having problems with Photoshop and Lightroom (not printing borderless) and I can't add a logo with iPhoto. I'm using a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5, printing to a Canon Pixma iP1800 printer. For some reason (I've searched and asked on several Adobe forums but no help so far) I can't get either Photoshop or Lightroom to print BORDERLESS 4x6s with this printer. iPhoto prints borderless, but I can't overlay a logo using iPhoto. The "easy print" software that comes on the Canon CD also prints borderless, but it's stupid, cumbersome, and slow to use, and again I can't overlay a logo. Switching applications (e.g. add the logo in Photoshop, print from iPhoto) isn't going to work - I need a MUCH FASTER workflow for this project. I can't make it go faster by batch processing - these will be individual shots, individually printed, one after the other, for 4 hours tomorrow afternoon from 4-8 pm. Thanks!

Any central signature managment tools for MS Exchange?

ExchangeFilter: any centralized signature/logo/disclaimer management tools you can recommend? I'd rather not go desk to desk to add a logo. OK, so I asked basically the same question two years ago; I ended up going from workstation to workstation adding a disclaimer to 40 people's signatures in Outlook. (There's a policy that no one is allowed to modify their own signature, so any changes have to be made by IT, which is me.) That involves travelling to 5 different sites, and I'd rather not do it again.

But there's a request in the air to add a logo or some other doodads to the company email signatures. Since my question was asked the first time, perhaps some advancements have been made.
Can this be done by:
1) a new Active Directory feature in Server 2008?
2) a new feature in Exchange 2007?
[we're running Server/Ex 2003 now]
3) if not, and this is still a 3rd-party-software solution, can you recommend any products? Exclaimer seems to come up a lot - any reviews?

I am studying reflexology and I need to come up with a name for my business, as part of the course. Help me Mefites, I need inspiration! My chosen name at the moment is Reflections - partly because it sounds like Reflexoloxy and partly because the feet reflect the body, which is kinda the point of reflexology. But I'm sure there's something more original, and possibly shorter, out there I can use. I like Sole-Therapy, but it's already being used.

I've come up with a logo, using two sanskrit symbols (one meaning 'reflection') but I've totally over-designed it and so I think I'm going to start again from scratch - ideas needed for that too!

I'm really looking for something totally original, but simple, which will surprise and impress people! Something that will stand out from the competition.

Anything you come up with will be much appreciated! I'm in the UK if it makes a difference.

What does this sign on my toiletries mean? I noticed a while ago, a small logo which seems to appear on almost all of my toiletries. It resembles a simple pot with the lid raised up, and inside the pot it has a number (I seem to remember the number always being a multiple of 6) and the letter M. What does this sign mean? I googled this and tried to find out but got no luck, and it occasionally bugs me while I brush my teeth or wash my face!

Obviously, the pattern incorporates a logo (there is a teeny registered trademark sign inside each square), but I cannot place it. Any ideas? Are the illuminated logos on post-G3 Apple laptops the same size? My inner-engineer is curious if Apple goes as far to adjust the illuminated logo size on each laptop based on differing sizes of the laptops. My guess is that the logo stays the same on each model to make sense logistically, but I can't seem to find confirmation of this anywhere online. Bonus points for sizing specs/interesting information.

My church is looking for a new logo. Help me find a good designer Looking through previous threads, it seems the consensus for finding a good designer is to look locally. However, in the middle of Iowa, options are limited. How do I find a good firm online?

What I really want is someone who will work closely with us to craft a logo that fits us well, and not just a mix and match of some clip art they have laying around.

I suspect our threshold of pain is around $1000 - is this reasonable? I'd also like to avoid just picking a company at random from Google, but would appreciate a reference of someone you have had a positive experience with

Where can I get a quality yet cheaper as possible logo and web template for a web 2.0-oriented website? I don't want any pre-existing template, I want something tailored for me yet I am planning on not spending much.

I know there are some "get your freelance here"-alike websites, but what I really want is a referral for designers who maintain an online portfolio.

I imagine not spending more than US$ 100 on that work. Am I too cheap? :-)

This one's for the Mrs: As a successful freelancer in a creative industry (writing-ish), is it enough to have a decent website and nice business cards, or is it worth it to a hire a graphic designer to come up with a business "brand" or "identity" for you? (And what should this involve besides just a logo?) From a quick glance around, this service seems to start in the $thousands. There are always higher levels to aspire to, but still, it ain’t chump change, and marketing/promotion for freelancers seems so amorphous (Do I need it? Did it help get me more/better work?) How can you tell if the payout will be – or was – worth the investment?

How do I break into brand and identity design?

I would really like to get into brand and identity design. What are my best options? I really enjoy everything about brand and identity design (the naming process, product or company positioning, the logo design, letterhead, business cards, etc). Luckily, in addition to liking it, it turns out that I am pretty good at it, too.

I just sort of realized all this in the last year, but have managed to pick up a few well known clients (e.g., designing a logo for a new product line launch of an international company). However, I really want to take this to the next level. My friend and started a design business together where we share responsibilities and that's going ok. But I really want a more long range plan.

1. What sort of higher degrees would serve me best? I was thinking of getting an MBA in marketing to help with setting up my own businesses and so I can be more reputable when making suggestions to clients.

2. Where can I go to submit my portfolio for possible freelance jobs?

3. My optimistic goal at this point is to somehow make a living doing this sort of work. What should I do to achieve this goal?

4. If you do this for a living, what do you wish someone would have told you or suggested years ago?

I'm trying to work out what company or organization this logo belongs to. I can't decide whether it's meant to be EE, E3 or something else entirely. It's on a sticker I found in a pile of DIY stuff next to our gas meter. (In the UK if that's in any way relevant).

How can I get the logo off of my eyeglass frames without damaging them? After searching far and wide for a pair of glasses (I am one picky bastard when it comes to these things), I finally purchased a pair I like.

They're great-- good price, I like how they look, and they are very comfortable. One problem: the frames are made by a company called French Connection United Kingdom, so they sport the company's initials (yep, FCUK) right next to my temples on both sides. Normally I abhor this kind of hipster bullshit, but like I said I dig the specs.

But I work with the public, so it just won't fly to be the guy with "FUCK" on his glasses, or even the guy who makes you think that he has "FUCK" on his glasses until you read more carefully.

So great is my faith in you, MetaHive, that I bought these glasses knowing you can help me get the "FCUK" off my glasses without damaging the frames themselves. The frames are black plastic, and the logo appears to be printed (i.e., not pasted or embedded) in white enamel, very small.

The ideal solution to this problem will meet two criteria:
1) It will not be more distracting than the logo itself (covering the logo with black tape, etc.)
2) It will not damage the frames (make them discolored, lose their shine, scratch them, etc.)

Let's also assume that "Dude, you just shouldn't have bought those frames" is not a solution.

How can I get a Couche-Tard t-shirt? Couche-Tard ("goes to bed late" or "night owl" in French) is a Canadian convenience store with a great logo. As a night owl myself, and the sort of person that would love having something that said "Couche-Tard" on it, how can I make this happen? eBay's never produced any good results...do I have to swipe some stationary, scan it, and get a custom-printed shirt?
