I have an Excel worksheet that logs hikes. The columns are date, location, miles, notes. The rows are hikes. I have a summary worksheet in the same workbook that I use to track progression. Things like cumulative miles for the year, average miles per month. I'd like to add month by month totals. I want to write a formula that will sum the distance only for a particular month (for example, January). I need a formula that will test if the hike occurred in that month, then add the miles to the sum. What would this formula look like? [more inside]
I'm looking for an app to log my weightlifting workouts. Think Starting Strength or Bill Starr's 5x5 but with variations. I've tried Strong for iOS and FitNotes for Android. FitNotes is close to my ideal, but I'm not on Android anymore. [more inside]

For a research project, we’re asking ~24 high school and college students to log their experiences with homework by sending us text messages and photos over the course of about two weeks. Is there a site where they can send those messages so that we could see them from a computer? There are particular features we’re seeking... What comes closest to satisfying them? [more inside]

I’m looking for examples from literature, film, or television that make heavy use of the ship’s log or captain’s log format as a key narrative device. And, actually, the ship need not be a ship and the captain need not be a captain – what I’m really looking for are official records of assignments or missions told methodically by someone in charge. Looking for fiction and non-fiction. [more inside]

NAVY TERMINOLOGY HELP! I'm reading through my grandpa's old flight logs (he was on the crew of a PBY during WWII), and just need help deciphering a couple of terms I see again and again. Both are located in the "Remarks" column of the logbook: FAMILIAR & BOUNCE. Other terms like Ferry, Scouting, Patrol, and Photography are pretty self explanatory, but I have no idea what these two mean. Any help?

How can I get Firefox (3.0.1) to log my browsing history to plain text files (preferably XML, but any that isn't essential)? At a minimum I'd like the URL, page title, and a timestamp for when I loaded the page. It would be nice to have how the page was accessed (via a link? direct entry?) and how long was spent on it.

I want to start a log of films I see, to include director, lead actors, genre, date viewed, etc, and my own review of the flick. This is for my own use only. Can anyone offer a recommendation for software to use/how to set it up in something standard like Excel so that I can search on any category but still have somewhat extensive space for my eloquent prose? Might also extend its use to books and music. I'm a mac user. Thanks!
Could someone recommend a social exercise log along the lines of We Endure but which allows one to track more general exercises (like weight training) along with activities like running and swimming. Thanks!

Hi, I'm hosted with TextDrive who don't provide stats or log analysis for their customers. ExcelFilter: I need help creating a pie chart as a separate worksheet in Excel that counts how often values appear in a column and creates a pie graph based on that data. I'm stumped, I'm not using the right Google terms, and my company's help desk couldn't guide me through the process, either. (That sounds awkward, so I describe it more comprehensibly inside.) I'm looking for a website log file analyzer. This is not to display summaries or graphs, as in this thread, but to examine the activity of individual IPs and get a handle on what kind of hacking attempts, leeching, and other abuse might be going on. I have direct access to logs (something that can DL them would be nice, too). The $100+ software I found isn't an option.
