We’re looking at a move in the next three to five years. Right now we live in a very conservative area of North Dakota, overwhelmed by an oil boom and all the bad that goes with it. It's time for a change. [more inside]

I know that most cities have a reason for being where they are(near a river, natural harbor etc) but I'm curious about cities that are actually in poorly chosen locations or make no sense at all. I'm sure several of the southwest cities may meet this bill but also curious about global cities too.

Can anyone suggest a relatively quiet place to study(must have power socket and wifi) without loud music and not too cold? In NYC, Brooklyn or Manhattan. Preferrably can stay for long hours. NYU library is too cold due to AC temp too low. I already wear long pant and fleece jacket, just cant sit still without chills. Thanks.

This is essentially a legal question. Is Fort Lee New Jersey within the Port District of New York and New Jersey?
The Port District is the area which the two states described the area that the Port Authority would be responsible for controlling on port matters when they set up the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. I want to know if Fort Lee, New Jersey, is within that area.
The exact description, which I have no idea how to plot is below. I'm hoping someone can just point me to a document proving it or a map of the Port District with either Fort Lee in or out of the district. Or its so obvious I don't even need to have a map. [more inside]

I'm looking for a tool that will let me have a map interface open (Google Maps, OSM, Bing, I don't mind), click on a location, enter a brief comment, then have that data (lat/long, comment, timestamp) stored for later retrieval - something like a Google Docs spreadsheet would be ideal. Are older phones or phones designed for poorer countries any less susceptible to spying than the latest Apple, Google or Android models? I've read about CEO's looking for the very old brick phones because since they don't have the sophisticated technology of the modern phones, they're harder to monitor or track. I understand the phones w/o apps are clearly more secure regarding third parties because they aren't sending personal data to companies. But what the government and everything else; voice, location via cell towers, SMS; the very basics.

I have a security concern related to using app's such as Grindr that pull location data.
I've had a couple people "stalk me" to my specific location in the past.
I would like to meet people in my "area" on these kinds of apps - but I want to set my actual location to somewhere else in the city.
I had this working on my old jailbroken 3GS. But now that I have a new phone (IOS7) it would seem I'm screwed.

While signing on with my VPN software recently I noticed that my ISP's physical location has changed. I live in Cleveland and when ever I would use my VPN software, as I do a few times a week, there is a map that tells me where my ISP resides. Recently, after years the map now shows that my home ISP is now in Kansas, however searching for my ISP address on various websites, it says my ISP is in Pennsylvania as well. Confused. I am aware that my home ISP changes frequently but it has always been in Cleveland. I have rebooted my modem and router a few times and it still reads the location in Kansas. Any Ideas?

I'm in the process of finishing the first version of my iOS minimalist Foursquare app.
I'm wondering what is the best way to get beta testers for my app. I simply need feedback and ideas for improvement/changes to the app. The app is currently not in the App Store, but I want to make sure I get everything right, just before iOS 7 hits.
What is the best way to do so?

Are there ways to "cross" or "join" data results in Google Analytics? Just as a for instance, I have a list of Referrals and a list of audience Location demographics. Is there a way to join those two lists, so that I know where site referrals are visiting from? (Generally, are there resources which list "pro tips" for getting the most out of Analytics?)

Paramount Pictures will be filming a movie on the street where I own a retail business. They would like to come in an do a bit of window dressing as well as possibly have the location available to them throughout the night 6pm-6am. It will not be a central location in the shoot but I get the feeling it will be periphereal. I am wondering what kind of compensation I should ask for as we will be inconvenienced. a bit
