My bf is back in the us and has been living with me for 3 weeks. At first I made it clear that leaving the toilet seat up, not pushing in chairs, leaving everything plugged in/lights on and not closing closet doors bothered me. Small things to ask for, right? However, I had to mention these things far too often in the beginning until the point where I had to suggest he start looking for a place soon b/c I am used to living by myself and like to be comfortable in my house. He apologized and since then has made a concerted effort. He's gotten better and I've backed off on constantly reminding him as per his suggestion (giving him the chance to self correct), but some of his old habits are kicking back in. I'm trying to be reasonable but looking for advice on how to get him to be more self aware [more inside]

We're going to a gig tonight that is massively sold out … and we're on the guest list. Are guest lists completely at the whim of the venue, or are there general guidelines that apply to most venues? We want to enjoy the show, but don't want to be “that guy” who ruins it for those nearby. [more inside]

I don't have a TV, I don't know anyone who cares enough to watch them in real time, and I can't find a bar/restaurant that's playing them.
Is there anyway to live stream it? I've googled every which way, and everything was a dead end, but I figure if there's a way, someone here might know it.

My windows live mail stopped working two days ago. When I start the program the message says "windows live mail has stopped working and will search the web for a solution." I have searched the web to find a solution and have tried what I found was suggested: going to the windows live essentials file and repairing it. I tried this three times and it still won't work. I am running what I assume is the latest version of explorer and windows live essentials 2011. Everything was fine until two days ago.
For what it is worth the latest windows update version is KB2913152 as of 12-12-13. But everything worked until the 1st of January.
Assuming I could download an updated version of the essentials, and assuming it would fix the problem, I am concerned about losing my contact list, as I can't get to them at the moment.

I'm remodeling my kitchen and have had an island built that is 2-level. The main counter is granite and the second 'bar' level for people to hang out at on bar stools is as yet undefined.
I'm looking for some advice about what kind of surface I can put on the second level. I'm very interested in wood and was thinking 'live edge'. It would be about 24" x 72".
Is this something best purchased from a supplier or is it a moderately DIY project from a tree cut by a tree service? Difficult to maintain? Easy enough to find? Suppliers north of Boston?

I saw a reasonably popular rock band in a smallish venue a few months back and the sound was atrocious. It was all bass and drums and I could barely hear the guitar, keyboards or vocals. This band in no way plays bass heavy music. Is the band or the venue at fault? [more inside]

The band uses Ableton Live for backing tracks (drummer uses a click track - metronome).
From the arrangement view (Live's VSTs are used also) is there a way to place video in a track and have it stream from a Macbook
while the audio streams to a soundcard?
If not, what is the easiest way to play videos in sync with the backing tracks? [more inside]

Using Windows 7, use Windows Live Mail for my email program.
I use an all-in-one printer to scan documents and send as attachments in emails. Now Live Mail automatically uses Skydrive for all attachments, I would like to just have normal jpg attachments without Skydrive. I read on Windows website how to set it not to use Skydrive in Hotmail but I need to know how to set it to not use it in Live Mail. Can anyone help me??

The Windows Live Family Safety
content filter has a neat optional feature: instead of completely blocking a web page that might be inappropriate, it can display a warning that the user can then click through to visit the site if they really need to, and then a notification is sent to the parent or admin that they clicked through the warning to get to the site. Is there a similar system available for Mac OS? [more inside]

I've spent years focused on studio electronica albums and am realizing that was a mistake. Having recently discovered Daft Punk's 2006 set from Coachella and deadmau5' 2009 set from The Roundhouse and been utterly, totally, completely blown away by both of them, I've decided that I need more live-recorded big beat in my life. What high-quality live recordings are considered "essential listening" for someone who wants to hear a legendary artist along these lines at their best? [more inside]

I'm a drummer in an indie-rock band with a 5-piece kit who is looking to expand my setup to include a drum sampling pad. I want something that has unique percussion sounds (not just cheesy electronic beats), built-in effects, plenty of storage space to upload my own samples, and the ability to record and loop live drumbeats. Any advice? [more inside]

I'm sick of Oklahoma, sick of cold and snow, sick of everything to do with this place. I want out of the state, but cant' decide where to go next. Over the last few years I've lived in San Diego, Orlando, Cocoa Beach, the Chicago area, Tulsa Ok, and originally the Phoenix area. Most of my moves have been prompted by having a friend with a couch willing to pick me up from the Greyhound station, but this time I'd like to go somewhere completely new and for the first time truly start over on my own. I would like to display Karaoke lyrics over a live
webcam feed. This means I might need a skype (or equivalent) plugin that plays the music & lyrics, or
find some karaoke software with the ability to display lyrics over a transparent background. (That is, to have windowless karaoke display, and run the webcam feed behind it. )
All the software (I can find) to play .CDG
(karaoke lyric standard) files forces them to be played with an image background, or over a video file. [more inside]

The music that everyone at my lab bench most enjoys working to is stuff like Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Justice, etc etc etc. Particularly good are seamlessly mixed live sets. Can anyone recommend any easily obtainable sets from these artists, or similar artists that mightn't be on our radar? We've already exhausted Alive 2007, amazing as it is. The only caveat is no naughty words; everyone was pretty abashed when a senior academic walked by just as SUCK MY DICK / AIN'T THAT SOME SHIT was blasting.
