wanted: cat. not wanted: lifetime poop-scooping duty

My partner and I want a cat. I'd like it to be an indoor/outdoor cat, because I CANNOT DEAL with litterboxes. Partner says we'd probably need a litterbox anyway, for when the weather's bad. Is that true? If you have a cat and no litterbox, please tell me how it works at your house. [more inside]

How do I stop my cat from pooping in the bathtub?!

No Cat Pee Smell Litter Box - Does it exist?

Okay, sorry for this gross question I am about to lay on you. I clean my cats' litter box on a pretty regular basis, scooping it daily (okay, almost daily) and then washing it down when needed. It is large size. What I am finding is the cat claw scrapes go down to the base and it's like the cat pee seeps down into the actual plastic of the box and just makes the box permanently stinky. I tried litter liners and it was a disaster - they ripped them to shreds and it was just extra mess to clean up. Does there exist like a stainless steel litter box base or that material they make space ships out of or something?

Hey Molly - piss in your hole not on my carpet. Kthx.

One of our cats started peeing in the tub. We got pissed and filled the tub up with water, thus stopping her from peeing in the tub. Alterna-Scoop That Poop!

CatFilter: I'm moving to a smaller place (that's way lovelier than my current home). The downside, there is no longer room in the bathroom for my cats' litterbox. So, it has to move into a (hidden) public space. I use feline pine + a covered box, which is pretty great (word to the pine!), so this shouldn't be a huge problem, but, one of my cats has...shall we say, strong (as in, industrial strength) bowels which no litter can sufficiently mask. She also has burying problems (sometimes the other cat does it for her because the second cat is also vaguely grossed out by her sister). Add to that my girlfriend - who works at home and doesn't want to constantly have to be bothered to deal with the litter. My question is this - has anyone (who uses pine or otherwise) found a nice, self-cleaning, or otherwise odor-muffling litterbox that might minimize this problem?

Cat Pee Cardio

Will exercising in a poorly ventilated basement near a cat's litterbox have any detrimental effects on my health or the quality of my workout? (Aside from the unpleasantness). Should I be worried about breathing heavily in this environment? Moderate-to-vigorous cardio (elliptical) plus heavy-ish weight training, about 30-40 minutes 5x per week.

Litterbox issue when traveling by car with cat

I am getting ready to move 1000 miles with my cat. I have a crate for him, and a litter box to travel with. But I'm concerned about when he might have to use it during the trip because I would like to keep him in the crate (as recommended by just about everyone I've talked to.) Is it ok to have him in the crate for 8 hours and give him occasional food and water and then let him use his litterbox when we arrive at our destination each night? Around the house he often goes that long without using his litterbox...but I'm just not sure if that will be ok. [more inside]
