Keeping my Kindle stocked

I get an email every month from Amazon with their editors' "Best Books of the Month." I always find some good recommendations there in a number of categories, and I'm hoping for more. Are there other websites that offer curated lists of new books on a monthly basis? [more inside]

Examples of dead/dying characters listing all the things they'll miss

What does a "John Dos Passos-like list" look like?

I was reading a review of Kim Stanley Robinson's 2312 and a reviewer said the following: The author inserts John Dos Passos-like lists here and there in the text. Looking for app/website to keep restaurant lists.

I'm looking for an app/web site to track restaurants where I want to eat. Requirements: Keeps a list of restaurants where I'd like to eat. Allows me to move them to "liked it" (so I'll remember to eat there again) or "didn't like it" (so I won't) lists after I've eaten there. Needs to have some sort of mapping function so if we're in the neighborhood and hungry, I can say "Oh, hey, we've been meaning to eat at [x, y, z] places. Which would you like to try?" [more inside]

What are good Web Based Tools for Building An Announcements/Events Board

What are good (ideally free) web based tools for building a Calendar and also an Announcements/Events Board? And can these tools produce content that I can embed in a web page? Ideally I'm looking for two features, so it doesn't have to be the same product: 1) Ability to post announcements. Ideally like the List feature in SharePoint, where you can post announcements to a list and set a timeframe for it to start appearing and then an end date for it to stop appearing. 2) A calendar. We already have a Google Calendar account, but it can't hurt to see what else is available. [more inside]

Organize my family life

Help me organize my family life. I've seen previous questions and don't think that Cozi is the solution. Maybe it's not an App but Apps I'm looking for, or are we simply not making the most of the tools we have available on our iPhones. How do you keep your family life organized? If you can give examples of how you use the tools vs. just the names that would be even more super-helpful. Details and specific criteria below the fold, but we need to manage and sync multiple calendars, shopping lists, to do lists, etc. Both wife and I have iPhones (me: 4s, her 3gs), she also has an iPad which she will use, also she isn't very techie so the more straightforward the better, and I need to sync an Outlook work calendar from a work PC that doesn't play nice with Outlook add-ons (other than Google calendar). How to create HTML/CSS ordered lists for Sections of a document?

I am looking for a method of displaying a list item's parent number in a list with nested sublists, in the way sections of a document would be displayed. Example:
...
8. Defining Custom Counter Styles: the ‘@counter-style’ rule
8.1. Counter algorithms: the ‘type’ descriptor
8.1.1. repeating
8.1.2. numeric
...
I'd like to use only the ol and li tags and CSS styling, but HTML lists will only display the number of the current node. Thoughts? [more inside]

I need a different kind of spreadsheet app for OSX

Is there a spreadsheet app that's geared more toward creating sortable lists of stuff? I know I can do this with Apple's Numbers app, but it feels so clunky. I don't want column "A" "B" "C" and so forth. I want to name the columns, just as the columns in iTunes are named (song, album, rating, etc). I don't want to right click a column and choose from a list of options to choose "Sort Ascending/Descending". I want to click the column title and have it sort based on that column, just as iTunes does when in song view, or in a playlist. Click song, the list is sorted by song. Click album the list is sorted by album. I'm not working with any calculations. I want to create easily sortable lists of my stuff... like wine! [more inside]

How can I keep my mailchimp list private

I am new to this so this may be a very basic question. I am starting a mailing list of about 1000 people with 3-4 subgroups. I want to structure it so that people working for me can design and send out campaigns but I want to find a way by which they can't download the mailing list and share it with others or use it for purposes other than my campaigns. Is there a way to do this? If not in MailChimp can I do it in another software?

The new iTunes is big and ridiculous. Help me make it small and snappy again.

Is there any way to make the new iTunes tighter and more minimalist? For example, I want my podcast and artist lists to be like the small-font, compact lists they used to be. Similar to the column browser, but on the side, NOT the top (which is all kinds of stupid up there). Basically, I want to see as many artists as possible with as little scrolling as possible. Any add-on or script or setting I'm overlooking that could take care of this, and perhaps other inefficiencies of the new iTunes?

gmail 'reply all' wierdness with mailing lists

Google seems to have changed their 'reply to all' feature recently for lists with a 'reply-to' email address specified. Now when you click 'reply all' it sends an email to the person who sent the mail as well as to the list. I'm on a list where like 90% of the people use gmail and it's causing a problem, because some people habitually click 'reply-all' and some people usually click just 'reply'. What happens is, I'll click 'reply all' to an email, and some other person will click only 'reply' to mine and the reply will go back to me personally, instead of the list. Is there a way to revert this behavior?
