Suggestions for music server software with smart playlists and unified playcount

I have multiple Ubuntu PCs in multiple rooms, each connected to individual HiFis. I want to be able to listen to my 150GB music collection from any of the PCs. BUT, I want to have a unified record of playcount, so, from each PC, I can access a "Not Recently Played" smart playlist that has been updated from all PCs. I'd also like to sync this Not Recenlty Played playlist with my Android phone. How can I do this? [more inside]

non-interactive full disk encryption

I'm tasked with attempting to build a secure virtual appliance. Problem is, I'm trying to stop people from gaining root access to the appliance via single user mode. This leads to a need for disk encryption, any ideas on how to create encrypted disk that wouldn't require someone to put in a password (plug in usb, interact with the boot process) to boot and still be relatively secure?

I need book learning for Ubuntu LTSP

I have searched the web, the AskMe mind, and asked a couple of local LTSP experts about a good, printed resource that will take me step by step through setting up an Ubuntu server and eight to ten clients. I know where to find most if not all the install info online, which is where most experts have pointed me, but my mind works better if can can see it in a book. Suggestions? [more inside]

Bizarre Apache/PHP issue.

I have a really weird Apache/PHP problem. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server, fairly typical webhosting setup. Ubuntu Users' Groups in NYC?

I have been looking for an Ubuntu users group in New York, N.Y. Does anyone know of such a thing? That is - a group of users (with a few enlightened and charismatic geeks among them), for mutual support, learning, and troubleshooting. (I'm not talking about learning Linux, now - just making the best of Ubuntu!) Ubuntu is a beautiful thing, and when it 'just works', it just works. But often it...well, doesn't, and you have to find a workaround. The online Ubuntu community is great, but it would be nice to tear my hair out (and exult in my occasional success) among flesh-and-blood people.

869/9500 = 1?

I'm seeing "No space left on device" errors on a Ubuntu (standard LAMP stack) Virtual Private Server, to which I have root access via SSH. df -i reports no shortage of iNodes, but df -h reports Size = 9.5G, Used = 869M, Avail = 0, Use% = 100%. I'm not so good at math, but those numbers don't seem to add up. I've found no reports of such errors with similar disk space reports on Google, and my usual avenues of online support have not been helpful.
