Hot summer days in New York can be miserable with the heat and humidity. I feel like I'm on an endless quest to find the perfect summer pants. What should I wear to keep cool and look stylish without being over or under dressed? [more inside]

Where in Toronto can I buy men's linen shirts, preferably dark colors and short sleeves? I'd rather not order online due to sizing and such. Thanks.

My housemate and I, and our across-the-hall neighbours, will soon be throwing a combined blanket fort party. If anyone has done something similar, do you have any tips for the logistics of actually constructing said fortress? We're thinking twine strung across rooms, secured at the wall by those little adhesive hook things, creating a frame for draping our linen - but there are worries about the strength of those little adhesive hook things. For reference, our apartments are 1920s Art Deco things with very prominent architraves (I think that's the word - skirting boards coming down from the ceiling, is what I mean) which we are thinking of using as our anchor points.

Where can I get a nice, good-quality linen suit in Toronto, preferably downtown? I'm looking for someplace I can buy off the rack that has a decent selection. Any leads would be much-appreciated.

About six years ago I spent a fair amount of cash on a good quality 100% linen sheet, pillowcases and duvet cover. The sheet and duvet cover are now worn out,the sheet in the center and the duvet cover at the top.I machine washed them regularly at 60° C with a standard non-biological detergent.I was under the impression that good linen lasted a lifetime.Do I have unrealistic expectations or am I doing something wrong?

O bibliophiles of MeFi: I humbly seek your wisdom. How would you clean the white linen cover of a fine hardcover? The book is 35 years old and in good shape, but the cover has grime, smudges, flecks, some yellowing: i.e., the usual buildup a reference volume would accrue over a few decades. I've tried mild soaps, but hesitate to use anything stronger.
