Do you use blue or red light therapy for acne? Does it work? A friend is looking to phase out the topical ointment she currently uses for acne treatment. She's going to ask her dermatologist, but wants to have some information prior to that meeting, and a lot of the information online is very obviously written by the manufactures of the devices. Photo therapy for allergies. Quackery?

Can someone with access to the medical research literature tell me if there is enough evidence to warrant taking the red light led photo therapy nasal devices for the relief of hayfever seriously? I suspect it is quackery but am curious if there is any credible research out there. Anecdotes abound but I'd like to hear about some scientific data. [more inside]

I'm heading into my first Northern European winter, and all of my Berlin friends are regaling me with stories of months spent in a state of unrelenting malaise while developing alcohol problems and watching people throw themselves on to the Bahn tracks. I had problems with depression even when I lived in California, so I'm trying to develop a strategy for a suicide-free season.
