I'm a 24 year old woman who needs to do some serious wardrobe updating. I'm tired of rayon and polyester, especially for summer. [more inside]
Where can I get more of this hexagonal bike tail light? It has 6 LED's, a yellow on-button, and a clip in the back. No other identifying marks. Takes CR2032 or similar batteries. Would love to buy a whole bunch more!
I spend a good deal of time video-conferencing via Skype. During summer afternoons, as the sun hits a certain point in the sky, there is strong sunlight glare from a nearby window that makes it almost impossible to work. I need screening, but cannot install permanent window treatment. I want a simple screen that I can prop in front of the window when needed. What materials or solutions will enable me to eliminate/minimize the strong glare? [more inside]
I'd like to buy a small (10-12 inch screen) very inexpensive (sub-$300) notebook, to use for reading PDFs, taking notes, and very light coding (i.e. emacs and python). Any recommendations would be most welcome. [more inside]
One of the burners of my gas stove does not go "click click click" when I turn it to "light". It does light if I turn it on and then light any of the three other burners. Can anyone diagnose the problem? Any DIY fixes?

Just purchased a ceiling fan that allows for 2 60W lightbulbs with a candelabra base in a closed glass dome. Need something brighter as this will be the only light source in the room. Having trouble finding small CFLs or LEDs with a candelabra base in 18W (equivalent 75W incandescent) or higher that will fit in the dome. Any ideas on where to find these kind of bulbs, or if they even exist? If not, any other ideas on how to keep the fan and to safely add some wattage? [more inside]
I have to stare at this thing an awful lot for work, and of course I stare at it recreationally too. But after a few hours a horrible dazed feeling creeps up on me. It's not eye strain, I don't get a headache. I just stop being able to think straight. This is not viable. What do I do about it? [more inside]
we have a three way floor lamp (you know, the one that goes low, medium, high as far as light intensity, and requires the special bulb) in our bedroom. recently, the switch seems to have gone wonky, and only offers low, and, if we twist the knob only a certain amount, high. while we've learned the trick to make it work, and it's not like it's hard, i'm starting to get pretty annoyed with the fact that this isn't working anymore. it was not a crazy expensive lamp, but it also was not cheap, and i like that lamp, and i don't want a different one. i assume the problem is in the socket itself. can someone who hasn't tinkered with electronics since she was a teenager (and that was mostly to take stuff apart to see how it worked) but worked as a mac tech as an adult change out the socket pretty easily, or is this something i need to leave to the professionals?
I have a candelabra chandelier (E12) and I want to use LED bulbs in them. The problem is, the bases of the bulbs are so wide that they bottom out in the socket before the bulb's end pin can make contact with the bottom of the socket. The socket does not have a tab I can pull out, and the chandelier is made in a way that replacing the sockets does not seem very accessible. I have encountered this with two different brands of light bulbs, and looking around, it seems that it is a common problem with LED lights. So, I want to stretch out my light bulbs. [more inside]

I have a 150 watt ceramic infrared heat bulb similar to this one http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-ReptiCare-Ceramic-Infrared/dp/B0002AQCPK that I use next to my desk to help keep me warm. It produces no visible light, only heat. Sometimes I have the urge to stare at it, can it hurt my eyes from the infrared radiation, similar to how looking at a regular light bulb can hurt your eyes? I am also interested in how these bulbs work, and the type of infrared radiation they give off if someone can explain it to me.
I've always packed light by taking a backpack on all trips and going carry-on only. But I'm going to be extensive international travel with a 35-liter backpack and want to know how to pack even lighter. Usually I only go on 1-week trips, and thus pack a shirt for every day, etc. How can I pack lighter? I've heard that Merino wool is a good material for shirts that can be worn a couple times before needing a wash. What are your tips and tricks?
I need to change the light bulb in this older overhead light fixture (and others in the building like it). Problem is, I can't figure out how to get the glass down. [more inside]

I want to start messing with LEDs; I have two (similar) projects in mind. I want a strip of multi-colored LEDs to respond to music. And second, inspired in part by this thread, I'm interested in learning about turning sound-responsive LEDs into a costume. I imagine those two projects are pretty similar, other than needing a portable power supply for the latter, right? So, can anyone help me figure out what I should get to start with? [more inside]
Some enthusiastic home dance party moves caused me to shatter one of the glass lampshades on this light fixture. I'd like to replace the shade, but I have no idea what lamp's brand or model is. Do you? [more inside]
Moving into a new apartment (yay!) with big windows, and I love me some sunlight. The problem is that the apartment is on the first floor and located in a pretty busy area where people will be walking and driving right by my windows a lot. Thus, I want curtains and I'd like to make them myself. My question: what fabric would allow the most light to enter the windows but also provide me with some decent privacy? [more inside]

Our chickens [!] have trouble hopping up on their roost at dusk. We have glued a keychain LED to the inside of the coop and have been turning it on every night, and then off when they are roosting. I would like to have this turn on automatically at dusk and then off again an hour later. If this were AC I would buy a timer from the dollar store. For DC do I need to build something? [more inside]
Suggestions for a children's reading light with a timer? [more inside]
I recently moved into a new apartment on short notice. One thing I didn't realize when kicking the tires was that there is no natural light in my bedroom during the morning. This tends to make waking up an unpleasant and lengthy event—it's dark, and often I just fall asleep again. I don't want this to happen, and I've noticed that when I sleep in a room with good morning light exposure I wake up earlier and happier. So: how can I replicate a rising sun in my room? Full spectrum light (like for SAD) hooked up to a dimmer hooked up to a timer? Clever arrangements of mirrors?
I know nothing about stained-glass, but I do know that at some point, someone spent hours making this and we're finally updating the room it's in, so it's time for it to go. Just wondering what I could reasonably sell it for, and if there are any good forums for doing so (other than Craigslist).

I've struggled with depression for 30 years and have tried multiple medications/treatments, light therapy, Transcendental Meditation, etc. The last modality I had so much hope for was Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation; the treatments actually made my depression worse. Since we all know of cases where tumorous cancers have disappeared without explanation, I'm hoping someone has witnessed this occurring in a friend or loved one who's been diagnosed with clinical depression?

I have a large room that I would like to illuminate with LEDs. I'm thinking of putting a ledge around the the walls about 45 cm / 18 inches from the ceiling and laying LED strip lights along it, directed upwards so they bounce off the walls and ceiling (which are painted white). Would this look weird? Would it light the room adequately? I'd make the ledge with a groove in the top surface so that you can't see the LED lights from floor level. [more inside]
We are relatively new to Seattle and have some friends who have a five hour layover coming in tomorrow afternoon. We do not have enough room in the car to carry them all, so they (1 father, 2 sons - ages 3 & 5) will jump on the light rail and meet us somewhere. Where would be a good, child-friendly place to meet along the light rail route to hang out for a few hours on what will likely be a rainy afternoon?
This is a light with a picture of some sort of presumably Italian religious icon. When turned on, a colorful disc rotates behind it, creating a psychedelic effect through the clear radiating slits in the picture. I want to buy something like it to modify to display my own image, but what' it called? What do I search for to find more? Photos inside. [more inside]
I work in a small shop in a male dominated trade. I am 26 but read younger (by up to 10 years if you have a weird idea of how teenagers look) small, blonde, and need to dress casually (jeans and a tshirt and sneakers) due to the nature of my work. Customer's ask me on a near-daily basis if I'm my boss's daughter. I hate this, I feel it undermines my value as an employee who has worked hard to be in the position I'm in. I'd like to think of a response that makes them feel like a ninny for one second, without offending customers. [more inside]

I'm looking for a nice, inexpensive task lamp to put on my desk at work. It should have adjustable brightness (low/high is fine) so that I can have either a little or a lot of light, as required. Free-standing, not clamp-on. $30 or less would be ideal. Help? [more inside]

When shooting and preparing an image file for print, I've always tried to set things up so that the highlights are bright, the shadows are dark, and everything else is in the middle. At work, I've occasionally been told by my immediate superior that I'm overexposing my images, and that the highlight detail is, in their words, 'blown away'. Checking my files, the highlights in the images in question cut off around 245, sometimes as low as 240! Is there a reason why they'd want the highlights even greyer? [more inside]
Need a bare bone light weight fold able wheelchair - But with the normal size wheels. Not the little casters qll round.. My wife uses a wheel chair 30-50% of the time, other wise she walks with crutches.
