I'm dogsitting and his ears have a decent amount of dog lice. The internet is assuring me they aren't transferable to humans and I'm taking him to a vet first thing tomorrow morning. What should I expect, what are the treatments and preventatives?

How can I make sure that I get rid of all lice and their eggs when I don't have the option of washing my clothes/bedding/etc. in hot water? Conflicting google information has made me resort to AskMe for now.
