In a few days my uni library is going to cut off my sweet, sweet access to its electronic resources, including full text e-journals and online references like OED. I can get an alumni account for $50 a year, but that only gives me physical borrowing rights, not e-resources. Does anybody offer comprehensive access to full-text online journals to non-students for a fee? I don't have a particular field in mind - I want it all. I'm an Australian in Australia, if it matters.

Looking for a good place to write in New York City. I presently use the Priest/Rose Reading Rooms at the Schwarzman Building on 42nd & 5th, which is beautiful and great except for the fact that it doesn't open until 10am and 1pm Sundays. I would be looking for something similar to the library reading rooms that would be open earlier (ideally 8am) and offer the same amenities such as; a power outlet, internet (if possible) and a inspiring atmosphere. I searched mefi for other similar questions and have only found this one, which focuses more on coffee house and outdoor settings. Please advise. Also let me know if there are any university libraries, private libraries or clubs (located in or near Manhattan) that I could use/join that fulfill my meager requirements. Thank you.
Help me prune my book collection! I have over a thousand books and really need to slim it down. I'd like to reduce the book count by at least one hundred but can't seem to do it. Many have sat unread for years. In the past, I've said to myself that I'll read them 'someday' as an excuse for keeping them around. I'm fooling myself. What process, criteria or rule of thumb should I use to help me prune my library, overcome the (admittedly) irrational tome attachment, and make my collection a plum size once more.

Attempting to create an online "television" for a massive online course that would rotate through content created by the course participants. Similar idea to betamaxmas but will probably include static visual content like Flickr feeds as well. Hoping to not have to build this completely from scratch but coming up blank on all searches. All great libraries have books in them, but how many great books have libraries in them? I just finished reading "Big Machine" by Victor Lavalle, and am currently reading "Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami (yes, finally!), and it's purely coincidental, but they both happen to feature libraries prominently. So now I'd like to know what other really good novels feature libraries in a significant way. [more inside]

I'm trying to find the name and address of a library near Grand Central Station in New York that's geared toward investors/financial research. It's a small, private library not affiliated with the New York Public Library system. I know the library exists (or existed until recently), but I can't find anything online. The library may be affiliated with some sort of society for investment professionals or financial analysts. It's *not* the NYPL Science, Industry and Business Library.

There's a gardener coming to speak at the library I work on next month and I thought I would also organise a veggie swap afterwards. So the publicity has gone out, my neighbours are coming and there has been interest from the local council and environment groups who are interested in starting their own if it goes well. My problem is I'm not sure how to practically run it. Should I issue tickets roughly based on market value when people drop off their produce or should I let it go for a free for all working on a trust basis. Anyone run one of these before? Any advise in general?
