Musical interlude: Woman going off the rails.

I love songs that feature the female singers going "off the rails" in response to the pain in their lives. Drugs, sex, alcohol! Help me find more songs to rock featuring a woman letting go/losing it to music. Bonus points if they have a music video. [more inside]

Figuring out how to quit you

I've been taking lessons from my really, really awesome violin teacher for the last three years. In the past four months, I've been non-committal - I had a horrible, traumatic death in my family, and I bought my first house, and I had/have mono. I don't want to play violin right now, or for the foreseeable future, but I can see myself returning later. How do I tell her that I need to take a lot of time off? [more inside]

Help me frame this difficult question re: what helps

I just learned yesterday that a good acquaintance has stage IV cancer. His wife has started a gofundme to raise enough money for them to pay the travel costs of entering a trial program. I want to support him/them but I'm conflicted and would love to hear from the community some words that I can say to myself to help let go of the conflict. [more inside]

Letting go of something on your bucket list?

What's a good way to 'give up' an item on your bucket list without feeling resentful? I don't mean giving up a life-long dream (like becoming a successful writer) or an impossible wish (like being an astronaut), I mean giving up something small like 'Before I die, I want to go to Paris for a few days' (my actual example is something else that's about the same level of effort as visiting Paris). Letting go- failure or quitting? what's the difference?

I am having a hard time letting go of something. I have been told that I have an amazing ability to persevere and I can, unfortunately, keep on trying to make things work- for ever! Needless to say, letting a current bad situation go is proving to be near impossible because I see doing that as outright failure, not to mention a complete waste of 1+ year. My friends say its not failure, and I don't think I understand the difference. So I am hoping that maybe you can explain with personal anecdotes? [more inside]

Is it possible to let go of past injuries? My parents were abusive when I was growing up (both physically and emotionally) and I have been dealing with depression and anxiety ever since, with medication and therapy. When your SO makes a really hurtful comment

I need some outside opinions. Let me preface with the fact that SO is a good person, and we're serious enough to be talking about marriage. Last night in an argument, SO said that I "always play the victim". We were discussing how SO had said something that bothered me -- not huge, but enough that I wanted to bring it up. SO also said that I was oversensitive. These comments really bothered me, they know and have apologized, but it's still changing the way I interact with SO. [more inside]

How do I "Let Go" and let life go at its own pace?

How do you "Let Go and Let God"? Or how do you just "Let Go" without believing in God? I'm struggling with sitting back and patiently letting life and relationships take their natural course. I always feel like I need to be "doing something" to control the situation and it's driving me insane. I know I want to stop this behavior, I just can't seem to figure out how. [more inside]

Any good quotations about regret (or the lack thereof)?

Occasionally I find myself regretting and second-guessing decisions I've made in the past. Whenever this happens, it naturally wreaks havoc on my happiness and self-esteem. I'd like to be able to cheer myself up during such times. What are your favorite quotations about letting go of the past/looking toward the future/stopping regret/living in the present/etc.?

Help me learn to let my hair down (and maybe dye it too)

Recently, during a movie, my boyfriend pointed to an actress and said “Hey, that’s a really nice color. I think it would look really nice on you.” And my reaction involved mentioning hair damage, fading, and a fear I’d never get my natural color back or that dyeing my hair might cause grays (I have none, and all my family members dye their hair and had a bunch of grays at my age). I love my natural hair color and texture, and if I could guarantee that after dyeing my hair, it would be exactly the same as before, I’d do it. So I tend to stick with what I’ve got because I’m afraid of what I’m going to get. I'd like to loosen up a bit.... [more inside]
