Hi all, I am struggling on how to word a letter (or a flyer) advertising my buddy's company that provides handyman services to property management companies. I've been putting it off for weeks and the google is failing me. Is anyone good at this, or can you recommend a source for how to write or format such a letter? Many thanks! [more inside]
I'm on the job hunt, and I was recently offered a great job! I have till at least the end of this week to commit or not. However, there's ANOTHER job that I potentially want more. For this second one, I have gone through 2 rounds of phone interviews, submitted my portfolio and done an assignment (a series of technical and creative tasks for them). How do I politely write to them to say "hey, if you want to interview me in person, could we do that ASAP please?" My brainstormed letter below the fold. Also, if you think this a terrible idea, please tell me why. [more inside]
Has anyone ever attempted to obtain their importing/distributor license? I am in the process but hung up on this one small step of obtaining a letter of intent from the foreign supplier, I have been searching trying to find samples but am unable to, just to use as a go by. Specifically interested in wines from a different country to import into the US. Thank you!
I recently discovered that my inspirational secondary school art teacher, Mr W, has lung cancer. Reports from my family suggest that it could be late-stage and not being treated, though his wife says they are 'staying positive'. Can I convey my thanks and best wishes without intruding at this time? [more inside]
Angelica Smith has passed away. Albert was her son. You were her niece. You want to write a note to the Smith Family, but what to call aunt Angelica in the letter? "I'm sorry for the loss of your mother/grandmother" doesn't quite convey the love you feel. [more inside]

I am interested in making a small stamp with a letter Q to use to monogram clothing items. I don't like any of the ones I've seen with an alphabet set. Do you have a typeface with a nice letter Q, either capital or miniscule? I want it to be recognizable/readable and I tend to prefer more modern fonts but I'm open to everything.

I am working on an Alternate Reality Game that I am using for teaching MBA students. The game starts with a character cracking under pressure and taking a sudden trip somewhere "exotic" (to a North American) - like the South Pacific or Nepal. As part of the game, I would like to send students a letter postmarked from the exotic local from the character. How do I make this happen? [more inside]
I started a year off a month ago to take some courses I've been interested in and do some travelling too. A PT position in my old industry has come up in the city I'll be studying in. This city is also the city I've always wanted to live in, which is why I'm making an exception to apply for this. How do I explain this year off on my cover letter? [more inside]
Hello everybody, I just received a great recommendation letter I asked from a former professor, however, he made a typo on my last name several times throughout the letter. Can you advise me a way to ask him to correct it without making him lose face and feel embarrassed? It's a quite delicate situation, thank you for any ideas!

The last time I went job searching was through answering ads on Monster. Everything was fairly straightforward. I would send my resume, go on an interview, get an offer or not. Now the advice is to network, use LinkedIn, find a recruiter, and figure out how to optimize keywords to defeat bot filtering while registering online. I’ve tried this without any success. Is there a better way to beat the system? Someone break this down for me. What actually works? [more inside]
How do I write a letter of condolence to my best friend whose dad passed away when it is the only way I have of contacting him? [more inside]
Sometimes someone does you wrong (most often in a relationship), and there is a desire to call them out, to write a scathing letter. Often it's advised to write it out but not send it. Can someone help me understand why? [more inside]
I would like to include in my cover letter the sentiment that the years I took off from work (for reasons I touch on) make me hungry for any job I take on. I would really like a job that gave me things to think about, something to focus on and obsess over. How can I put this that doesn't use the word "hungry" and makes me sound more like a dedicated worker and less like a slightly crazed person? My thesaurus's suggestion of "could eat a horse" is not helping.
Hi Mefi Community, I would like to apply for an MFT grad program but feel a huge block when it comes to the personal statement, as well as the letter of reference(s). One of my recommenders has asked that I draft the letter of reference and he will approve it after review, but I've never actually even seen one of these before, so do not know where to begin! My wife and I were writing a brief thank-you note to some friends, and she was helping to edit. I then signed it off as 'Arandia & Wife' -- only my wife says that it should be 'Wife & Arandia', since *I* wrote the letter and it is coming from my email address. [more inside]
I'm looking for a form letter that I can use to send to managers of shops when I've been provided with good customer service. Ideally, I'm looking for something that I can just edit the small details of, like the individual's name, what they did that warranted the letter, etc. Also, if you were a shop worker's manager, what would you really like to know/read in this kind of letter?
This envelope with a letter inside was found inside a large decaying bound edition of Shakespeare auf Deutsch in a junk shop in Bushwick that was only apparently open for a few months before disappearing. The letter, postmarked 15 March, 1939 - was sent to Paris by a Mr. Henri Wolf. The contents of the letter appear to be German shorthand. Included was small piece of what looks like code, there's nothing else on the back. The letter, envelope, postcard, etc in question are at this imgur album. Hivemind: What the hell is this?
When addressing a formal or business letter to multiple parties, say, A, B, and C, is there a rule for the order, e.g. by how important people are? I.e. if A is more important than B is more important than C, is it: Dear Mr. A, Ms. B and Dr. C: or Dear Dr. C., Ms. B and Mr. A: and are there style guides that I can reference for this? I have a voluntary position with the union I'm a member of, which involves a lot of extra work, which has been fine up until now. Recently, the job role has changed, with people in my position being encouraged to take on additional duties. There have also been other changes that I'm not happy with. How do I go about resigning my position without causing bad feeling, especially as I will likely need the services of the organisation in the future? [more inside]

I have this Old Fashioned glass with a bold, matte black letter printed on it. It's 4" high and 3 1/4" in diameter. The bottom has bumps the size of smallish marbles. I have a suspicion that it was carried by Crate and Barrel in the 70s or 80s, because my mom has one too, and my family got a lot of decor from there when I was a kid. I'm looking for more, specifically a J or an M for my wife's birthday. (She loves having her initials on things.) Any ideas?
