What can I do with my old F mount, non AE Nikkor lenses? I have the Nikkor monoscope adapter that works very well with the 200mm. What to do with the 28mm, 50mm, 55mm macro, 135mm and 500mm mirror (universal mount) lenses?

What caused the light to do the weird radial effect in my picture
? I'm guessing it's the UV HAZE filter I leave over my lens?
Does the effect have a name? Like some weird form of "blooming"?
Shot with a Canon Rebel XTi with a 28-135mm USM IS, 6 second exposure.

I bought the Pentax K100D dSLR, partly on recommendations from here, and I love it. I have the 18-55 kit lens and the 50-200 zoom lens, which I mostly use. Now I would like to buy a faster in-between zoom, somewhere from 24-28 at the low end to 75-135 at the high end. I am trying to figure out whether to buy a Pentax, Tamron, or Sigma lens and am getting confused with all the contradictory reviews. The Tamron 24-135 is praised to the skies by some and trashed by others. I am leaning towards the Tamron 28-75 but would like something closer to 100 mm. Any advice?

What's your favorite Nikon-compatible macro lens? I'm completely new to macro photography (and still pretty new to photography in general, having purchased my first DSLR a little over a year ago), and I'm leaning towards the Nikon 60mm f/2.8D AF, largely because of the price differential between this and some of the other Nikkor macros. Anyone have any great experience with some of the makeshift macro lenses (using extension tubes, reversing rings, etc)?

What kind of tripod mount ring do I need for a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens? I bought a used lens, but it's missing the tripod collar mount ring. It looks like Canon makes a few different mount rings, and I can't figure out which one I need for this particular lens. Does anybody know? Even better, if you know where I can get one on the cheap. If there's an off-brand solution out there, I don't care who makes it as long as it fits my lens and works well.

I am planning on buying my first dSLR camera, a Pentax K10D. What would be the best lens to go with it? I can only afford one, so I was going to get the Pentax 24-90 zoom but I am not able to find one. What other similar lens would you recommend?

I'm interested in fitting odd lenses -- and making custom lenses -- to/for digital cameras and digital video cameras. I'm not terribly concerned with the electronic side of things, so you shouldn't be either. What I'm looking for is a crass/crash course in optics -- something (a book, a video, a class, a kit) that will teach me the basics of optics and allow me to force photocopier lenses, telescopes, and microscopes onto unsuspecting recording devices.

Let's say I find a shiny spherical object and under point lighting, I move it very close to my eye. I then focus on the bright spot, but focus at a distance of 1-2 feet until the patterns are in focus. At this point, it looks like a bad microscope. Am I looking at part of my own eye? Is this a documented phenomenon I could read about?

I've been having a bit of problem getting my WB set just right on my new 30D. I think the canon's have a tendency to AUTOWB a bit too cool for my taste. I'm thinking about getting an Expodisc or something like it. Do they really work as well as the advertising says in setting your custom White Balance? Could I achieve the same effect by putting tissue paper or tracing paper on the lens while setting Custom WB? Help!

I just bought a new DSLR camera (Nikon D50). I love it. But the bag I bought for it has the camera going in vertically, lens-first, which means all the weight of the camera is pushing on the lens. Is that bad for the lens?

Recently somebody broke into my car, took my camera equipment, and dumped it in the bushes. The stuff sat there for nearly two weeks before we found it this morning. Everything's there (or seems to be), but I'm worried: all five lenses are cloudy. They seem to have collected moisture inside. How can one effectively remove moisture from inside a camera lens?
Will time take care of it?
