new lens from Sigma (18-250 zoom) comes in a Pentax mount. Pentax puts their DSLR image stabilization in the camera body and not in the lens like Nikon or Canon. Yet the description for all the lenses is the same - image stabilization in the lens. Is this a case of cut&paste product descriptions or would using this lens on a Pentax camera have double image stabilization (both lens & camera body)? [more inside]

I'm loooking for a lens recommendation for a Nikon d70 specifically for close-up indoor photography of kids.
Apologies in advance for asking a question that's very close to several others here at AskMeFi, but here's the twist... [more inside]

I am looking for a lens for my Nikon D80 that works well in low-light conditions. Something relatively compact and not too expensive would be best. [more inside]

Exposure difference between two lenses at the same aperture?
I just noticed that using the programmed exposure on my d80 with two different lenses at the same aperture produces different shutter speeds - even though the scene is the same. [more inside]

I remember reading about these spectacles that'd let you control their focal lengths by varying an oil film between two rectangles of glass that were held together by the frame ('oil inside the lens'). Links?

I'm going to be taking photos this weekend in an artificial ski field, (mixture of cold and warm environments), the people facilitating the event have said that last time they had someone shoot at a similar event their lenses fogged up when moving between the snow and the heated cafe. How can I prevent this? [more inside]

Photofilter: Which lens should I buy?
I'm in the market for a new prime. I've narrowed it down (for various reasons) to either Canon 85/1.8 or the new Sigma 50/1.4.
Do any fellow photogs out there have experience with either one or have a recommendation. Eventually, I want to go with the 85/1.2II but it'll be awhile before I have the cash.
I'm looking for something with good bokeh as I like to shoot wide open and get short DOF. Currently, I'm using an old OM Zuiko 50/1.4 to achieve that but since it's not autofocus, I miss more in-focus shots than I like.
In case you need to know to answer I shoot on a 30D and a 5D.

Is there any evidence (scientific, anecdotal or otherwise) to suggest that cheap store-brand contact lens solution is inferior to name brands like Opti-Free or Renu? I'm specifically referring to multi-purpose solution for disposable soft contact lenses. What are your solution experiences? [more inside]

There's a photograph of a Persian gold finial resting on a highly patterned cloth on p. 56 of the August 2008 National Geographic (directions to find it online inside). The finial is in tack-sharp focus with significant depth of field while the entire cloth is pleasantly blurred. Shenanigans? I would love to know how this photo was taken. [more inside]

I'd like to buy a telephoto lens for my Nikon P5100
. There's a bunch on ebay & Amazon - Tokina, Opteka, Fotodiox - for between 40 & 100 bucks. Are any of these lenses/ brands worth their dollar? ($100 is my max, so the $250 Nikon branded lens is not in the running.)
