The charity I volunteer with want me to set up a photography competition with a prize or prizes to be determined. Anyone can submit an unlimited number of entries (within reason) and the winner(s) will be decided by judges appointed by us. We'll display the photos on our website. What kind of legal warning do I need to provide on the competition entry page to safeguard us? Can I use some kind of standard template?

Have you read or can you point me to any interesting articles about what will be the future of media like films/software/books given the way they are all being distributed online via torrent sites & the like. Will copyright go away or what? I am looking for INTERESTING theoretical speculations, not some person just saying the letter of the current law will be enforced or the usual doomsday-talk.

A friend of mine owns a record store and is curious about the legalities of giving away monthly mixed CDs. Each disc would feature 10 or so artists connected on a theme (female folk, avant garde jazz, little-known world, etc.) of artists he's featuring that month. No charge for the CDs. Basically, it's like the CDs you get with Mojo or CMJ. Legal? He's in Canada. What if they're "free with any purchase". Legal?

I often see big-deal blogs such as Consumerist using third-party Flickr pictures to illustrate stories. I'm under the impression that when these pictures are tagged with an appropriate Creative Commons license, that such use is ok (as long as it falls under the restrictions set forth). But if it's explicitly tagged 'All Rights Reserved' how is this OK? Are they getting permission in each instance?

My dept is becoming part of the National Division (home office in Georgia) rather than the Regional Division (where I now work at Regional Division Home Office in PA). I am not physically moving anywhere. My employer is now National Div, even though it is just the parent/umbrella of Regional Div. My insurance carrier will now be BCBS of GA instead of Highmark BS of PA. ADHD is covered by Highmark. It is not by BCBS of GA. I will end up paying about $4000 in out of pocket expenses due to this. Is this legal? What are my options? Supplemental insurance for MH does not exist. I make too much for any state aid and am ineligible for other state MH programs. (there is a TL;DR summary marked as such at the bottom)

Today at work, a closet was being cleaned out, many items were being tossed in a trash cart. I noticed that a few of these items were unopened, brand new (though out-of-date) items, and out of curiousity, checked to see if they were worth anything. I noticed that a few of them were going for not-insignificant amounts of money on ye olde eBay, and "rescued" them from the trash, thinking about creating a D-I-Y Christmas Bonus out of them by putting them up on eBay. Other co-workers have done similar things, selling a fair amount of old equipment at garage sales, etc, and none of my immediate peers seemed to think anything of it. Mrs. [anonymous], however, seems to feel that it's ethically wrong to do so, and more importantly potentially legally wrong. Does the hivemind have any knowledge of the legal (and/or ethical) implications of this D-I-Y Christmas Bonus? (For reference, we're probably talking $300 total, here.)

We just moved, and the one single show that my wife loves (and I don't mind much actually - minus its whiny soap opera moments, but I think Chloe is nice to look at) is Smallville. The newest episodes are not on the TV channels here. We're in Canada. I want to download the newest episodes ASAP after they appear. I want that to happen legally.

Lawyerfilter: I'm curious about the legality of replicating content (designs, catchphrases, etc) from a given medium into another. For example, I love the "Real Genius"-inspired shirts that
