I have an opportunity to get out of a terrible work situation, with what seems to be a reasonable severance pay-off. Trouble is, I'm in the Netherlands, and don't know any Dutch lawyers. Can any Me-Fite point me to either a Dutch employment lawyer with whom you have experience, or to a resource where I can find my own? Posting anonymously as some co-workers read the site. I have an attorney. My attorney has made me unhappy in several ways, mostly by procrastination. However, I am afraid that another attorney will not take the case because it's too small. (In the tens of thousands of dollars.) Is it legal for me to ask another attorney if he will take my case before I fire my current attorney? Or must I fire my attorney and take my chances with another attorney not accepting my case? (Attorney #1 took my case primarily because I already knew him.)

Help a friend get legal ownership of a car he purchased in Illinois sans title [more inside]
I have a friend that is having some trouble with a car he purchased and he's trying to figure out what could be the best outcome in this situation. Basically, it looks like his odometer may have been tampered with and has been making far more repairs to this car than seems reasonable. He contacted the AG and they're willing to take the case but he's not sure if that's best. I don't have all of the finer details, but the gist of it is inside. He said there were other smaller repairs, but these are the main ones. Also, I'm trying to keep it a little vague just for anonymity's sake, but I can provide details if necessary. [more inside]

New York State Law: Why would a self-proving affidavit be rejected by the probate court, and what can be done about it?
My father passed away in February, and left a very simple will - a 50/50 split between my sister and myself. His estate is very small, so we are trying to keep legal fees down as much as possible. The will and supporting documentation have been submitted to the NY probate court. One of the probate clerks is objecting to an irregularity in the self proving affidavit that's holding up the whole process. (The will itself seems to be sound.) Somehow this affidavit was screwed up by the notary. [more inside]

Mac-based Discovery / document review software? Westlaw CaseLogistix nails the functions but is Windows-only. Must have the ability to manage Bates-stamped PDF/TIF documents with embedded OCR text. Bonus for other file types in addition. Multiple networked users need to analyze/tag documents based on case-specific criteria. It would be great if the information could be easily exported to an open format, but I know that's likely asking too much. I searched through the Macs In Law blog but didn't see any good candidates. We have begun building a house, we have the plans, the lot and the builder. No ground broken yet. We signed the contract with the builder. When securing the financing, we were told that the builder has several liens and they will not finance us if we use him. I've got an ATV without a legible VIN number. How can I get this thing road legal? As far as I can tell, new frames don't have a VIN, and you're expected to use the one from the old frame, so I can't just buy a frame. Obviously I could buy a VIN and title from somebody with a dead ATV of the same year, but that's starting to get difficult and/or expensive and/or dicey.
