LLC just to publish a couple of apps?

I plan to release a couple android/iOS apps in 2017. Personal projects that I do mostly for enjoyment and to gain new skills. I’m considering whether it’s really worth it to form an LLC just to release these apps and have some basic liability protection. I've read in a few places it's good to be paranoid about this kind of thing in our hyper-litigious country. [more inside]

I didn't leave you, you left me!

The daycare we've been using suddenly announced they were closing with 30 days warning. In our community, this is ridiculously little time to find a new place. Miraculously (and with connections), we found a place, but need to start next week to keep a spot. All good, no? But when we tell old daycare, they tell me that we're contractually obligated to pay them for 1 month after we announce we're leaving. YANML, TINLA but does this make any sense? [more inside]

I'm looking for quotes about how society creates laws.

Both humorous and philosophical.. there's the classic "Laws are like sausages. It is better not to see them being made", but I'm more interested in quotes that are about human's relationship with the law and insights into the complicated process of lawmaking. I'd love to hear some of your favorite quotes. [more inside]

YouAreNotMyLawyerFilter: But I feel discriminated against as a mom.

The landlord of my vacation rental just flaked on me. What can I do?

Earlier this year, I arranged to rent a beach house for a week in Rehoboth Beach, DE this summer. Yesterday, the owner contacted me to inform me that he was cancelling my reservation because he found a tenant who wanted to rent the house for the whole summer. At this point, my vacation is pretty much ruined, as I'm unlikely to find a comparable rental at a similar price this late in the year. What recourse (if any) do I have with the owners? Did they break any laws by doing this? [more inside]

Can I sell an easement on my property?

My property's title has an easement onto my neighbor's property for a right of way through the neighbor's property to my property. I don't need this easement to get into my property, although I do occasionally use it. My neighbor's property has been purchased by developers and they would like to buy back the easement (pay me to extinguish the easement) in order to develop across the easement. This seems straight-forward, but selling a portion of my property would seem to violate my mortgage agreement. Would it? [more inside]

Can I use my insurance and the person who hit me to cover my bike?

A while ago I got hit by a car biking. The lady who hit me first covered property damage, like bike, helmet, jersey, etc., but the bike was below what the cost was to actually replace my bike. Even thought the bike had less than 300 miles they said it had wear and tear. I ended up getting about 60 percent of the original value that I payed a couple months before. The question I have is, can I also use my renters insurance to cover the bike cost? or can I only do my insurance or her insurance? Thanks

One neat trick to dismiss Kim Davis' asshole bigotry

For some reason my mom decided it would be a great idea to let her married, lesbian daughter know that even though she supports gay marriage, she "sees Kim Davis'" point of view and thinks she should have the right to a religious exemption, or that she should "have the right" to keep her job because "the rules of her job changed". Does my live movie riffing show have to pay for film rights?

I ran (and hopefully will run again) a live movie riffing show along the lines of a Mystery Science Theater 3000. The first time I did it, we did a film from the public domain, but I know it would be a lot more popular were we to have a better class of film. Do I have to let cable technicians in my apartment?

The cable in my building is out. At least one of my neighbors is affected by this, and my cable is also out; however, I don't use mine so I don't care. The cable people want to come cut a hole in my wall. This will be very loud, require multiple visits, and take at least 45 minutes. I am seriously ill and for various reasons this will be catastrophically disruptive for me. I said no. Do they have the legal right to force this on me? I wonder, also, if the landlord has to give permission - they want to cut a totally gratuitous hole in a place that can be clearly seen.
