A good friend and former employee is going through a tough divorce. I filled an affidavit testifying to her child care and parenting skills (we both worked at a private school). Her husband's responding affidavit accused me (falsely!) of drunken altercations with the local police. Should I be worried? Should I respond? [more inside]

Will the Korean doctor rob me blind?? Here's the long and short of it... my father is the doctor that pioneered tumescent liposuction. he teaches his techniques to other doctors on a regular basis and manufactures the tools and equipment involved with the procedure. Recently, a doctor from Korea, I'll call him Dr. Lee, took my father's course and liked it so much that he expressed an interest in teaching the course in Korea and to sell my fathers products in his courses. My father is very interested, but feels concerned that he must submit all of his technical files to Dr. Lee so that he can submit them in an application to the Korean FDA for approval. [more inside]

Anyone know if having a marijuana paraphernalia charge will prevent someone from becoming a CPA in Texas? Its a class B misdemeanor but I went to the site but when I went to the site, tsbpa.state.tx.us, it is very vague about which misdemeanors are considered for denial of certification.

Hidden among various other breathtakingly evil clauses, part 13 of the Comcast Agreement for Residential Services says that if the customer doesn't opt out within 30 days of receiving the dense legalese, he gives up the right to sue Comcast in a public court. But (in clause 15g), Comcast maintains the right to sue the user any time they like. Is this stuff enforceable? YMOMNBAL

I've got a vehicle whose title is in the process of being transferred to me. I've got to do the reregistration by mail from Oregon to California. I've had an offer on the vehicle. The potential purchasers say a bill of sale and them putting the vehicle on their insurance is sufficient to let them drive legally. They also mentioned a temporary registration, which I've never heard of. Is this a bad idea, or a practical one to get the car sold now. [more inside]

So I got a letter the other day from a client of mine who said that I did not have permission to put up a link to their website from mine and that I must remove it. This seems rather silly to me, considering I built most of their website and they even won a web award for it. Can they legally force me to remove the link?

So I was crossing the street right after work in the crosswalk, on a green walk sign. A cab was making a left turn, ran into me, knocked me down, and then ran over my foot! The worst part was that he stopped ON TOP OF MY FOOT, wth?! So he gets out of the car to check on me and i'm on the ground screaming bloody murder- BACK THE F OFF MY FOOT- pretty funny when i re-tell it now since miraculously (doctor's words) I was spared from any major injury! What are the limits to "pleading the fifth" when providing testimony to Congress? This has come up in the context of a friendly debate at a bar about Roger Clemens impending testimony before Congress. A few folks have suggested that he's suing Brian McNamee for the sole purpose of providing himself cover - i.e., that he can refuse to answer questions asked by Congress because of his civil suit. As I understand it, this isn't correct - he can "plead the fifth" if he's afraid of incriminating himself, but the fact that HE is suing someone else doesn't provide any additional cover. On the other hand, if McNamee was suing him, then he might be able to use THAT as the basis for a fifth amendment excuse. Is this correct? Obviously, I'm not looking for legal advice - just a credible opinion that might help settle a friendly bar debate... [more inside]

I just received an email from PayPal notifying me that my account information has been requested by the IRS. I rarely use the account--it has very little activity other than the occasional small purchase (ebay, etc) and small ebay sale. It doesn't seem like a scam email, but I have no idea why my info would be requested? Should I get a lawyer involved or is this just a large-scale email I should ignore? Here is the email with my name removed (however, the case does refer to John Doe): [more inside]
