So I managed to get gum on my shoe yesterday. Normally I would just scrape it off, but in this case it's on the top of the leather shoe, not on the sole. I did some googling and saw advice to freeze the item with gum on it and other advice to use a hairdryer to heat the gum. One page suggested peanut butter. Since these seem like contradictory bits of advice, I'm here asking: Have you ever tried to remove gum from leather? What worked? Since it's the top of the shoe I'd like to have it look ok when I'm done.

I have a beautiful, just shot wild goose! Except I didn't expect to receive a wild rather than tame goose, and I have no bacon or other fat to cover it in. How can I cook this without turning it into leather? Help? [more inside]

I have a slim leather belt
with lovely Mexican silver hardware; but the belt itself is fairly shredded, and has already been repaired once (by a shoe repairman, who did the best he could).
Who fixes belts these days? How do I find someone to put the hardware on a new piece of leather, in Montreal, in New York, or on the Internet? How much should I expect to pay?

For the past year or so I've been daydreaming about buying a classic leather motorcycle jacket, like this
. Tragically, though, I cannot afford to spend $700. My budget is more like $200. Can you help me fake it? [more inside]

I've had a black leather jacket for four or five years, and the jacket itself is probably twenty years old. I never had it stain anything until I began wearing white button-up shirts to work, but now I have a bunch of shirts with dirty collars that don't wash out. What can I do? [more inside]

I have several watches that I wear that all have leather watch straps. With a couple of the watches, my ideal placement for the hole in the strap is actually in between two current holes. What is the best method to create a hole big enough to use? I have tried a sharp turkey skewer to poke a hole in it, and while it pierced the leather, it didn't leave a hole large enough to easily go through every time.
I have thought about a leather punch (which i guess is used for belts?) but that would be way too large. Suggestions?

What's going wrong with my 10-year old sheepskin? ok, actually it's an angora goat skin, but it's the same concept. The main body of it is okay, but the sueded leather is really stiff and fragile at the edges/corners/legs, and pieces keep cracking and falling off, though not yet to the point of crumbling. What's causing this? Can I fix it? [more inside]

In what Los Angeles stores can I shop for plush leather desk chairs? I'd like to visit well established stores (ones that have been around for a decade or so) and try out various desk chairs before I make a purchase. I'm willing to drop some bucks for the right chair. I want it to be down-stuffed, soft leather, plush, swivel, tiltable back, adjustable height. I'm not really concerned so much about ergonomics...I don't have back problems. I just want a sense of plushiness when I sit at my desk. I'm willing to drive to any part of town.

My current crop of desktop wallpapers are too distracting. Crashing waves, sunsets, streaking meteors, and galactic vistas sure look nice, but they make my eyes stray from the work in front me. I want to find hi-res, high quality shots of fabric, quilted leather, wood and other materials to "upholster" my digital desktop and make it look luxe. Help! [more inside]

Where can a leather jacket be repaired near White Plains, NY? My son's new jacket brushed against a metal fence and has a clean slice in the sleeve. 2 tailors want to glue and stitch it, but I'm afraid it will look as if the jacket has a scar. Any suggestions?

I hadn't intended to use my question for this, but I just can't get it out of my head right now ... what skin ailment would cause this
? (Warning: semi-icky, but not disasterously awful, picture.) And is she wearing some sort of leather slacks, or are those her legs?
