Say it wasn't all for nothing...

I'm strugging to come to terms with the fact that I've read such a seemingly extraordinary number of books yet seem to remember so very little. The obvious answer is to apply oneself more rigidly, in future, to study; to take notes and review them, etc. However, I really don't feel like writing extensive plot summaries every time I read a book, neither does this help me deal with the very distressing realisation that I don't know as much as I should do. Going beyond the textbook and the Language Lab

What are your favorite online resources for learning, practicing or getting exposure to the languages you speak? I'm looking for things that go beyond a textbook and a couple of CDs: things like interactive tools and study materials, well-written blogs written in / about the language, and especially audio, video or reading materials that people learning the language might not be able to find easily. Appealing, school-appropriate video game clip?

I would like to find a link for a short video clip of a video game that meets certain criteria. It will go into a presentation to elementary school teachers, as a quick backdrop to a point about interactive games that will be used in school, and that will be fun while challenging kids to think and learn. (It won't itself BE that game; it just has to plausibly look the part.) It needs to have some connection to an outer space theme. [more inside]

Looking for advice about Spanish immersion programs (and more) while in Oaxaca, Mexico

Traveling to Oaxaca with a friend for a 2-4 week Spanish immersion program this June/July. We are looking for some advice about Spanish language programs, homestays/lodging, and transportation. Where to learn to surf in Asia.

First-hand surfing advice. My 29 year old son lives in Hong Kong and is looking for a place in Asia to spend two weeks learning to surf preferably within the next few months. He's reasonably athletic, but a complete beginner. He's thinking Bali, but is open to any location. He's searched Google and found lots of possibilities, but he's looking for first-hand recommendations from someone who has done something similar. He's ready to spend what it takes, so low cost is not a requirement.

How To Learn Psychology

I have an interest in psychology that I'd like to explore further, but I'm not really sure how to start. I can't say I know much about the field of psychology. I'd like to explore alternatives to taking classes at the local community college (I'm not looking for a degree), but I'd definitely like to understand the mind more. Some books I've enjoyed reading: Prozac Nation, Paradox of Choice, Stumbling on Happiness. [more inside]

I ain't much on that book learnin'

I am pretty terrible when it comes to picking up technology books with the desire to learn about something. I always lose steam at some point. I am asking for tips/tricks/disciplines to get better, especially if you've noticed a difficulty doing this and turned yourself around. Is it possible that I am simply the type who needs to go to a class or learn through on the job training? Or is there a way to get better?
