What should I code to learn a given language?

Let's say I want to learn a few (more) programming languages. What application/solution would it be best to try to create in order to really "learn" a given language? [more inside]

What can I learn from comic books?

I like to learn things, but textbooks are boring! I find comic books gripping in ways that normal books aren't. Can you all offer examples of educational, information-rich comic books (or, if you prefer, "graphic novels")? [more inside]
