I am looking for information about leaky roofs and ceilings. Our roof has water leaks in the rain. The ceiling is made of acoustic tiling and the tiles are starting to pull apart and crack. The ceiling is stained with water damage and leaks when it rains in three locations in the house. How long will it be before the ceiling collapses or the tiles start to fall? If you've ever been in this situation, what was the timeline and what different events occurred as the ceiling went from "OK" to "On the Floor"?
I have the opportunity to rebuilt an area of flat roof on my house, with a slight slope. My question is, do flat roofs have to be flat? If not, why aren't they more often built with a little bit of a slope (intuitively that would seem to be helpful to get water off it). I live in a wet state (ie rain is the issue not baking sun). Thanks
Dear husband asked for advice about our ice dams last week. Our entreaties were ignored by the Ice Lord and we have a full on leaky ice dam that has really messed up our first floor bathroom ceiling and probably more. What now? Three specific questions inside. [more inside]
My roof was replaced a year ago, due to hail, paid for by my insurance company and performed by a local contractor. This morning, in heavy rain, I see fresh water-tracks down a wall of my bathroom. I'm not sure who to call, or how to get all my ducks in a row prior to calling. [more inside]
Our house is a six year old flat roofed house in New Mexico. Every time it rains or snows, the roof leaks in several places. We've gone up there with tar and sealant about 5 times in 18 months. Sometimes we fix it, but not before another leak forms elsewhere. We invited several membrane type roof vendors over for estimates and they range from $20K-$26K for a roof with a lifetime guarantee. The membrane roofing seems like a good idea. Does anyone have experience or advice with finding a permanent solution to a leaking flat roof.
Sandy's dropped almost 3 inches here already. Our roof (over 22 yrs old, original, already had quotes to replace it in the past 2 weeks) decided to leak. So I'm looking for general knowledge/hints/tips on fixing things after a roof leak. [more inside]
Just how bad is this water damage a roofing contractor caused to my house? And what should I do about it? [more inside]

There are ceiling-to-floor water streak marks in one of my bedrooms. Is this just condensation or could it be a roof or wall leak? [more inside]
Our roof is leaking and the super doesn't seem to care. [more inside]
Its midnight on Friday. My roof is leaking. Its supposed to rain all weekend. My house is 3 1/2 stories and the leaky part of the (gabled, Queen Anne-style) roof is not easily or safely accessible to without special equipment that I don't have. Assuming that I'm not going to be able to get anyone to fix this before Monday at the earliest, is there anything I can do to to at least mitigate the damage? [more inside]
