My mother has an Acer LCD (model AL1715) hooked up to her Mac Mini. The warranty expired 3 days ago, and last night it woke up after being asleep for about 45 minutes with a black line across it - the image divided in such a way that the image has rolled - that is, the bottom is at the top and the top at the bottom, split not quite equal halves. Disconnecting and reconnecting don't work, powering off and back on don't work, changing the display mode on the mac doesn't work, and we can't find a reset button. Acer doesn't answer tech support phone calls (endless holds) or emails. Any ideas?

Hello. I just found out the new Canon D20 digital SLR we use in the office doesn't allow one to use the LCD for framing - it can only be used for playback. This seems odd to me, since the Nikon digital SLR (and every single compact digital camera) I had used previously did. Is there some kind of firmware update or hack that would allow the LCD to be used as a finder? It would be tremendously helpful to be able to use it as such, especially when the icons relating to camera state etc. are all superimposed on top of the image on the PCD. I'm surprised that this camera doesn't allow that, when other digital SLRs (and all of Canon's lower-end cameras) do.

I bought a mac mini and an Acer 17" LCD for my mom recently, and it finally looks great since I switched from the VGA to the digital cable. However, the aspect ratio seems a little off - everything is a bit squished together. [more inside]

At work I have a fancy new big giant Apple cinema display. I like it. But I noticed that recently, since I changed my desktop picture to something near 50% grey, I get afterimages - for example, when I close illustrator after working on lineart, I see a ghost of the lineart on my desktop for 15-30 seconds. I thought it was my eyes but my cow-orkers see it too. Is this bad? Can I up the refresh rate on the screen or something? I don't like it.
