ask to resign or accept my layoff? How to spin it in interviews?

I took a job at a preschool and was just let go a few days before the 90 day probationary period ended. Before this, I was temping as an administrative assistant. My plan is to go back to the temp agency. Will it look better to prospective employers if I resign, or does it even matter since I'm going into a very different field of work? I'm mostly worried about prospective employers calling the preschool to confirm employment ; asking if I'm eligible for rehire, and hearing "no". [more inside]

Working at a startup that's showing signs of trouble... how to prepare?

I jumped from a big stable company to a startup about a year ago, and now it's growing increasingly clear that things are not looking good for the company financially. Contracting after being laid off - would you do it? should I?

What Should I Do With $150K Cash, No Debt, No Dependants and No Job?

I've always put money into an emergency fund in case I lost my job: I lost my job, and of course I'm glad I created the emergency fund, but I'm not actually quite sure what to do with it. I guess I'm wondering here if/ how I could use it to make some significant life changes - rather than just lose it on rent and living expenses for however long it takes me to get back on my feet. Management Psychology

My company is going through new management. We were informed that positions will be cut. We were told by upper management to make sure our resume is set up and we have a Plan B and C. Does anyone know of any documentation/study on the correlation of how many individuals told by upper management to have a Plan B leave the company? I am curious on how many they are expecting to find other opportunities outside of the company. [more inside]

Explain Severance Negotiation as if to a 5 y/o

I was just laid off this week. Am still reeling from the shock, crying at odd moments, cycling through grief, despair, relief, hurt. Though many people from the company were let go I was the only person from my department and relatively low level, so it feels quite personal, as if the big layoffs were just an excuse to get rid of me. I will eventually have to come to grips with whether I want to remain in my industry or not but that seems like a decision best delayed to a time when I am calmer. [more inside]

My boyfriend of one year just learned that he'll be laid off in the next few months. He's now applying for jobs in our hometown, as well as dream jobs that are halfway across the country. Job Search Paralysis Thanks to Fear of Inability to Prevent Layoff From Next Job

I've been, for a while, what economists would call a discouraged worker; in most ways I gave up trying. Lately, I'm trying to marshal my spirit, resolve and grit together and get back out onto the job market. One of the biggest emotional problems I'm having is a fear of being let go again within a few months of this hypothetical new hire.
