I am applying to take a state bar exam. The application asks "Have you ever been reprimanded, sanctioned, disciplined or suspended or expelled from a college, university, or law school?" I was kicked out of a summer "pre-college" program at a major university while I was in high school. Does this need to be disclosed? [more inside]

Mefi lawyers, how efficiently do you bill? On a day where you have no non-billable obligations, what's your ratio of hours billed to hours in the office (including lunch)? I'm at about 80% on a really good day, and I'm not sure if I should be aiming to improve that.

Lawyer Alert! -- Say my beloved son is 22 yrs old and living in Montpelier, Vermont. Suppose that Montpelier has more lawyers per capita than any other state capital (which it does, because it is the smallest of them all). Can anyone with knowledge of Pakistani politics tell me what's going on with the lawyers' protests? Are the protesting lawyers part of a particular political faction, or are they protesting as a profession in general? Is there anything being done by the legal profession world wide to support them, even symbolically?

[Child of Divorce Filter]. I have discovered I have the ability to view a 400+ page set of documents that are the sum of my parents' bitter legal divorce. On one hand, I hope it may shed some insight for me on people I never really knew. On the other hand, I fear doing this may cause a lot more emotional baggage than it will be worth. What do you think? [more inside]

About a month ago, my pregnant wife and I were in a minor fender bender on Rt. 202 in NJ. The woman before us stopped short, and we hit her going about 20 mph. This wasn't our fault. Their wa sa police car who made an erratic turn at the merge of the road that cause a few cars in front of us to swerve and or strop short at the time. The mini-van had a minor scratch and bump. Our jeep had no damage..... I don't know the full details of the law, but NJ law seems to say that the person who hits from behind is automatically at fault. Period. [more inside]

New York MeFites -- do you know (or are you) a lawyer in a small firm, interested in taking on business clients who need modest quantities of good, sophisticated corporate and finance counseling, and who are happy to pay NYC rates for it?
I regularly receive requests for referals to such lawyers but can't satisfy them from my network of big firm lawyers who are bound to firm policies which set $50k to $100k per-matter minimums.

I remember reading somewhere about a law firm that will pay $25 for each instance in which it successfully sues a company sending out spam faxes. I recall that they needed a minimum of 10 spam faxes and it was completely free of charge. Does this ring any bells?
