Life with a robotic lawn mower

I'm considering investing in a robotic lawn mower. Technical specs and short reviews are easy to find, but I'm having trouble sorting out if the investment is worth it, or if I should rather buy a high-end "normal" lawn mower or possibly a riding one. How is life with a robotic lawn mower? [more inside]

How to quickly get rid of some old gas?

I have one of those cherry red gasoline jugs that I use to store gas for my lawnmower. Usually I just re-use the gas from year to year, but I know that's bad (OLD GAS!), and I'm trying to take better care of my mower and do things like use new gas and change the oil and, you know, stuff, so I'd like to get rid of it and get some new gas... Is My Lawnmower Dead?

I have a Craftsman mower with a 6.5 HP 4-cycle engine. Last weekend I changed the oil, put on a new blade, cleaned it up and generally got it ready for the new season. It started right up when I tested it. [more inside]

Don't kill the wabbit!

Help! I just accidentally ran over a rabbit's nest with my lawn mower. I didn't hurt any of them, but about four or five baby rabbits scattered into the woods, obviously scared to death. I've found a couple of them and I'm not sure what to do. [more inside]

Is My Lawnmower Toast?

Is my lawnmower toast? Today I put oil in my lawnmower and made the (dumb) mistake of not draining the old oil out first. When I ran the lawnmower afterwards, large amounts of white smoke appeared and the engine started making a "knocking" sound. I stopped mowing, figuring it wasn't safe to continue on in this condition. Am I out a lawnmower or is this fixable? Can I just drain out the oil and start again or is it possible irreparable damage has occurred?

My First Yard! (tm)

After years of renting apartments, I have moved up in the world: I am now renting a house. Strangely, the house comes with small organic green things projecting from the ground. Having never been responsible for a lawn before, I don't really know what to do with it. I also have two, I don't know, shrubs (I think). One is low growing, thick, with branches that kind of double as rhizomes, and one might be a juniper. As you can see, I'm pretty clueless. What do I need to know/what must I do/what must I buy to take good care of my lawn and it's various planty inhabitants? [more inside]
