Citizens United and 100 Years of Law?

How does the Citizens United ruling "roll back 100 years of law"? As far as I can tell, it only allows corporations (= companies and unions) to do in the 30 or 60 day run-up period before an election what they've always been able to do before those cutoff dates.

Would law degree enhance HR masters degree?

I am currently a mid-level associate at a prominent New York law firm specializing in benefits and compensation. I am not cut out for working at a big law firm long term and there have not been many alternate opportunities lately that would be satisfying to me (i.e. working at a pension fund, compensation consultant, in-house positions). I enjoy many aspects of my field, but not the law firm lifestyle. I am considering going back to school to get a degree in human resources and am wondering if my JD and background in benefits and compensation law would help me secure a human resources job. It's quittin' time!

I'm a lawyer, and I've spent my entire legal career at big Vault 25 multinational firms doing transactional work. In 2012, I want a new job. My boyfriend is about to face a court date next week for a furnishing alcohol to a minor charge.... he would gladfully face punishment for this crime, however, he didn't furnish alcohol to a minor. The prosecutor wants him to accept the plea agreement and not waste anyone's time. My boyfriend just doesn't want it on his record. Any ideas? [more inside]

Bad bra. Now what?

In late July my wife bought a bra from a national retail chain. She wore it one day and was left with a painful large welt/wound on both sides that made it uncomfortable to wear any bra for three weeks. When she explained what happened to the store, they put her in touch with their corporate offices. The welt/wound has mostly healed, although some red areas are still visible and there is some mild throbbing and more-than-occasional itching. She saw a dermatologist who said that there may be some permanent discoloration. The corporate rep indicated that they'd pay for the doctor's visit, although there really wasn't any out-of-pocket cost because the visit was covered by my insurance. Beyond this, can she expect some kind of compensation for the pain, inconvenience and continued problems? What's the best way to go about asking the company? Do we need a lawyer? How do we find one?

US Tax Law Change for Americans Living Abroad

As a US citizen, living and working abroad for many years, I recently heard of a new law that I must file tax returns on the US by Aug 31, 2011 or face a penalty. Anyone know about this? If US citizens live and pay taxes abroad, they generally are exempt up to $91,500.

Filming on mass transit in Toronto, Canada. Legal?

Filming on mass transit in Toronto, Canada. Legal? ... A friend of a friend of mine was on a Toronto streetcar when a fellow passenger complained about the delay to the driver. The driver threw a fit and decided the passenger had to leave or she wouldn't drive on. The passenger refused. The driver called an inspector. The inspector sided with the driver (of course). My friend captured this on her cell phone video. When the inspector sees the camera (which was in clear view the entire time) he walks over and smashes the camera out of her hand (he didn't ask her to turn it off first). My friend wants to post the video but is unaware if filming on the transit system in the city is illegal as faces are clearly visible. I saw the video and was shocked and want it spread wide. Legally, what's the situation? [more inside]
