Credit Union Law...

[US banking law filter] So my credit union 'forces' me to deposit checks, payable to me, into a savings deposit account (share deposit account), rather than my checking account. I'm not sure they should be doing this. Lots of gory details inside.... [more inside]

How to Defend Against a Secured Parties Claim

[Bankruptcyfilter] YANML...speaking in hypotheticals only. Exempt furniture / wildcard exemption vs security interest of creditor in same said furniture with a UCC Security Agreement. Does the furniture get an exemption? Or does the furniture get Repossesed via Foreclosure of Security Interest in Personal Property? Furniture was just pledged as collateral...never was sold or belonged to the creditor. How is this determined... by the Bankruptcy Trustees discretion, or by law?

What is the best path...

Did we receive sound advice? A friend is filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the next few days. A creditor is threatening to repossess some items if said person doesn't respond to the written request for a voluntary surrender of the items. A document pledging the items as collateral was signed. Opportunites for young people in government and law

Daughter (sophomore about to turn sixteen in a few days) is interested in pursuing a career in law and would maybe like to serve a summer intership or clerkship in Washington her Junior year. I realize her school (college prepatory) should be able to assist with this and I will ask them but I thought I would bring the hivemind to bear on this as well.
