This past Friday I was pulled over by Brookline PD for speeding (doing 42 at 35) -- they told me my license was suspended and immediately put the cuffs on me and took me in.
I told them this has to be a mistake, but they didn't want to listen.
My license was briefly suspended in November when I was laid off from my job and was unable to pay for one of my tickets. I rectified this once I got my first unemployment check and have proof of payments via my bank statement.
When I went to the RMV to get my license reinstated, they charged me $140 and told me I was all set. This very same day I bought my auto insurance via Progressive and we all know you cant buy insurance unless your license is valid.
The cops at Brookline PD are saying my RMV record shows nothing about my license being reinstated and they believe that someone at the RMV made a clerical error and did not do their job properly.
My questions are as follows;
- Can I sue this RMV branch for negligence?
- How can I get this stupid shit off my record? They took my photo and all. I don't want this lingering on my record! I've never been arrested before.

Scam filter: An apartment finders made a copy of my license upon entering (before even filling out an application). I didn't end up using their service and asked for the copy of my license back. They made a bunch of excuses and then said that they shredded the copy of my license and showed me a bunch of shreddings. What can I do to protect my identity? [more inside]

What is the difference between getting a marriage license and getting married? I mean, do you have to have a ceremony to be married? If so, why do you need a license to do it? Can you just get a license and call it good? [more inside]

In New York State, if you are walking down the street on a public sidewalk (not doing anything illegal) and if a police officer asks to see your ID, by law, do you have the right to not show them?

Is it possible for cc-licensed content to be un-cc'ed? That is, relicensed under a more severe license. As far as I know, Creative Commons is forever, but I just wanted to make sure.

If a person has a valid out of state license and has had their in-state (lets say... Virginia) license revoked, and is pulled over driving in Virginia, if they produce an out of state license, can the police officer link this valid out of state license to the revoked in state license? [more inside]

I am running a free Web-based service for friends and acquaintances. Lately, the volume on this service has been growing greatly. The next step is to move the service to a professional host. I am thinking of putting a paypal donation button on the site to help pay for it. Are there any legal or tax issues I need to worry about? Do I need a business license? What if I want to start selling Cafe Press items or running Google ads? I am located in the USA.
