For an Australian citizen thinking of moving to the United States, is it better to see an immigration lawyer in Australia, or one in the US, for consultation? This assumes that one is currently in Australia, but travels occasionally to the US.

As a US citizen, living and working abroad for many years, I recently heard of a new law that I must file tax returns on the US by Aug 31, 2011 or face a penalty. Anyone know about this? If US citizens live and pay taxes abroad, they generally are exempt up to $91,500.

I'm a dude going to marry a dude in New York State. Said dude I am going to marry is a resident alien from the UK. Will the UK recognize the marriage? Does he become an American Citizen by marrying him? Does that counteract his UK citizenship? What are my rights, here?

Legal experts of AskMe, I ask for your advice (which is not to be interpreted as legal advice)! Company X provided two online bonus offers. At the time I registered for the offers, neither offer stated that they could not be combined with the other. However, Company X only wants to apply one of the offers.

I am helping my partner migrate to the U.S. after our marriage. We're nearing the point where we do an Affidavit of Support during our embassy interview abroad, which says I need to bring tax returns. I have not filed income taxes for the last three years, because I have been a full-time student in this country. What should I do?

I'm looking for a listing, preferably something with citations of the actual state laws, of when each state changed it's laws to allow for the direct election of electors in the electoral college.

Is it legal to sell your vote in the United States? Since I don't care all THAT much who's president, and I live in a swing state, I was thinking of auctioning my vote off, or forming a syndicate with like-minded citizens to auction our votes
en bloc. I mean, either party would get bigger bang for their buck buying 100,000 votes outright for $6 million, than spending the equivalent on hit-or-miss TV advertising.
