Generally I avoid white clothing, but I recently acquired a few nice blouses--plain white, white with dots, white with stripes--and I'd like to keep them nice. But all I know to do with white things is bleach them. How do you keep your white clothes white, particularly if they're not all white (i.e. patterned)? What actually works? [more inside]
I use OxiClean to remove stains (especially pit stains) from shirts made from cellulose or synthetic fibers (so cotton, linen, rayon, poly, etc.). The instructions say not to use it on silk or wool, but they don't say why. What adverse effects will result if I use OxiClean on protein fibers?

So, I am wearing a dress today that I haven't worn since last summer, because it's a warmer weather dress (a green gingham version of this dress, actually). Upon changing a work from my riding clothes, I discovered an odd, yellow stain on it. The stain didn't respond to soap and water and I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I noticed a similar residue in the pocket. So now I figure that the last time I wore it, I left some multivitamins in my pocket, and washed and dried (and somehow ironed without noticing this? I need better light in my place) the dress with the multivitamins in the pocket. Do I have any hope of lifting the stain now after all this time and after heat has been applied? What should I do to improve my chances of getting it without destroying the fabric?
In what is probably the strangest cleaning issue I've had to date, a seemingly inexplicable,* large glob of hot sauce (or maybe ketchup? hard to tell) found its way onto the floor of our bedroom. What's worse is that it was under several bags of clean laundry that had been brought up from the laundry room a few days ago. What's even worse than that is that I lifted those laundry bags up and put them on my bed where I was going to sort and fold the laundry. So, now we have sauce 1) on the wooden floor, 2) on my bedsheets in small amounts, 3) potentially on some of the clothes that were in the laundry bags, and 4) in thick globs on the exterior of all of our laundry bags (this is the one I'm least sure how to deal with). I have a short sleeve shirt that consistently comes out of the drier "bumpy" all over. There is a very repetitive pattern on the shirt like a checkerboard. The pattern alternates bumps and depressions. I can easily get the bumps out by ironing the shirt, but I'm lazy and would much rather just dry the shirt. Is there anything I can do to avoid the pattern? Or, should I just give up and relegate the shirt to my "do not wear because it's too hard to clean" bin? The shirt is 81% polynosic rayon and 19% polyester.

How do you remove silicone based lube from clothing/sheets/cotton based material? Traditional stain removers have not helped. Ammonia was suggested, but I've no clue what that would entail doing and whether everything I owned was destined to smell like that forever.
