I use OxiClean to remove stains (especially pit stains) from shirts made from cellulose or synthetic fibers (so cotton, linen, rayon, poly, etc.). The instructions say not to use it on silk or wool, but they don't say why. What adverse effects will result if I use OxiClean on protein fibers?
My lovely boyfriend did me the wonderful favour of doing my laundry for me while i was at work! Unfortunately, that favour included machine washing and drying a 100% silk dress, and a 100% wool sweater. Help! (he also saw the not-so-nice underwear and the spanx, but that's a whole other story.) How do I get the fishy smell out of a silk (well, silk and cashmere blend) sweater? [more inside]
I have quite a few silk blouses, and I'm curious about the various washing instructions. Some are dry-clean only, others hand wash/line dry, and others still are machine wash/tumble dry. (As well as other assorted combinations). Why all the variations, when all are 100% silk?
