Rent question (grace period falls on holiday) Oregon

My friend rents an apartment. According to the lease he signed there is a 4 day grace period before his rent is considered late. (He sometimes pays on the 4th of the month because of when he is paid). This month the grace period involves the July 4 holiday. [more inside]

Going into my late 20's = Harder time meeting people. Is this common??

I'm going to turn 28 this year, and I've noticed a trend when it comes to meeting people as I get older. It's become a lot tougher to meet people and hang out with them outside the workplace or school setting. [more inside]

Separate or wait to see if things get better?

My husband and I have been together for 9 years, married for the last 3. We met when I was 19, and him 21. Recently I have been feeling like I might want out. I still love him, but I am not sure that he is going to change in ways which I would prefer him to. Should I tell him I want to separate or wait to see if things get better? [more inside]

I'm 45, female and just discovered I'm bi. Now what?

I'm 45, female and just discovered I'm bi. Now what? Yes, I know it seems unlikely, and the nearest I can figure is my arousal/desire for every single one of my lovers has occurred after being desired, rather than finding someone hot in advance. I was married for a very long time, and possibly oblivious to any gay come-ons, in my premarital time. For the sake of the information I seek, can we please assume that I am correct - that I am bi, and that this wasn't just experimental? (which has been suggested to me by a straight friend). How much should I ask for in compensation for overdue furniture?

Can I fix this late-wedding-gift gaffe?

I am very embarrassed about this. Last September, I attended the wedding of some good friends who live far away from me. At the brunch the day after the wedding, I discussed with the bride the gift I planned to give them to make sure it was one they'd want. AskMe, I still have not ordered that gift. Can I fix this by ordering it now and enclosing a note of apology? What do I say? Or do I get in touch with the couple first to find out if they still need it or would prefer something else in case they've already gotten one for themselves? [more inside]

Tell me about Boston's good old days

I'm writing a book and want to include a scene set in the mid-1990s in Boston. I'm looking for articles, blog posts, photos and books that capture that era. Things that talk about specific bars, clubs and restaurants would be perfect. The main character is a college kid who visits Boston and is taken around to all the "cool" spots by a local girl he meets randomly.

NYC Last Minute Hotel

I am at JFK waiting to fly to Bermuda. Most likely, my flight is going to be cancelled due to weather in Bermuda. In the event my flight does get cancelled, what is the best thing to do regarding finding a room for the night that isn't going to be dodgy? I have had a look at rates in Manhattan and even something as simple as the Courtyard Marriott on 3rd is going for $450 a night. Should I stay near the airport? If so, where? Do I have any leverage on such short notice? Can I just call the hotel, and say 'Hey, I need a room, if its not you, its gonna be someone else. What's the best rate you can give me?' Help me find a decent place to stay and not pay an arm and a leg in NYC.

Did Marx come to disavow aspects his earlier writings, i.e. The German Ideology?

Is anyone aware of the specific elements of The German Ideology that the later Marx is said to have disavowed or been unproud of? I understand that Marx's economic understanding was developed far beyond what it was at the time of this writing due to his research on the matter, but I'm concerned about if Marx came to feel any different on the historical materialism expressed within his earlier works? I could've sworn I had saw one reference that reflected how Marx felt about his early work (specifically, The German Ideology) but I can't find it now, and I know that I couldn't trace that observation into any sort of specific elements that Marx came to disavow.

Casual dinner in London RIGHT NOW - where?

It's 23:00 / 11:00PM. I'm in London, near St. Pauls. Where can I eat right now? Nothing fancy, just something to get a decent late casual dinner. Takeaway or delivery is fine (or even preferred), and totally flexible on cuisine. A good curry or Kebab shop would be idea. I don't mind taking a taxi or the tube, but I don't want to be out all night. Any ideas?

Denied boarding for an ariline, best recommendations/experiences to get compensation?

(Denied boarding Airline question) -- I just got back from what was supposed to be a cheap trip to Paris (rtrp $464 after tax) but on the return leg, I missed my Air France flight because NO COMPUTER SCREEN in CDG (Charles de Gaulle airport) had the flight listed. By the time I located the terminal of the flight, it was 45 minutes before take-off and despite not having carry ons and perhaps 5-10 people in the line for tickets, I was told the flight was closed and I was not going to be able to board...... Give me hope, give me some 'late achiever' stories!

I'm almost 31 and though I have had some achievements in life they're not spectacular. Most of the time when I see a biog in the paper the 'achiever' was already doing well from a very early age. To give me hope that achieving at this stage in life is possible I would like to hear of people who went on to make great achievements relatively late in their life (ie 30+) with not much happening before then. These can be anybody, famous or people you know, in any field, both creative and career wise. I haven't defined great achievement but I mean something rather outstanding (unusual I suppose) rather than 'passed my driving test' or 'got married'.
