A good haircut?

Where can I get a good men's haircut (and style) in Las Vegas? (or Chicago?) I'm a 22 year old guy. I basically have the same hairstyle I've always had. I need a haircut and would like to try something different. I want to find a place where I can explain my basic needs and then have someone else pick the cut, then show me how to style it. There isn't really any place I know of that I'd feel confident doing that.

I'm not someone who puts a whole lot of attention into his personal appearance. I want something that looks good and is functional.

I'm in Las Vegas right now. I'll be in Chicago in a week or two. I'd prefer to do it Friday while still in Las Vegas, but will wait until Chicago if I can't find any place good. I look at this as a one-time investment into trying something new, so price isn't a huge deal.

Any suggestions where to go? Please also include rough price and how much I ought to tip, as well as any other suggestions you may have.

These boots were made for walkin' in LA?

What is appropriate fashion in fall and winter when in a warm or desert climate? I live in Atlanta where we have 4 disctinct seasons (albeit in no particular order!) but I'm hoping to spend more time in the Southwest - Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, Los Angeles, etc - both for fun and perhaps for work, but have no idea what to wear when it's fall (I'll be there this weekend) or winter (again around Christmas). Will my trousers and boots look silly? How about tweedy skirts or sweaters? I am most concerned about business wear (woman, 30s, casual to dressy office) and going out in the evenings. Does it matter if you stay inside where it's going to be air conditioned? Do desert-dwellers and southwesterners still hanker for wool and suede when the mercury outside is in the 70s? Thanks for your wisdom!

Planning for Las Vagas

Planning a trip to Las Vagas with a couple of friends. We're students from the UK, so any help for making the trip awesome is welcome! Particularly getting the cheapest plane tickets, accommodation and things to see. We're planning the trip for summer, from July to September. Hopefully staying in Vagas for about a week. There will be 2-4 of us, all over 21.

1. Firstly, (and most importantly), which method will be best for buying the cheapest plane tickets? We don't care if we have to sit in the luggage hold :)

2. For hotel rooms, somewhere in the middle of the strip would be awesome, but keeping the price cheapish. Sub $40 a day/person would be great. Sharing a room is the way to go. Any recommendations?

3. We plan on playing a little low stakes poker and blackjack. Any recommendations for decent casinos? Is there anything else that is a must see? Free is best, but if it's worth going to, then our wallets will oblige I'm sure :)

What's a good bank or credit union in Las Vegas?

Henderson, NV / Las Vegas Filter: What bank or credit union would work best for us? You've all been really helpful with my other Vegas-related questions, so hopefully this time will be no different! My fiance and I are in search of a good bank or credit union to use in Las Vegas, now that we've moved here. Here are some of the things we're looking for in a bank/credit unions:

- Low/few fees.

- Good online banking that will hook up with Mint. We're geeks.

- Fairly good savings account rates. It'd be nice if it was with the same bank/credit union as our checking, but I suppose it's not absolutely necessary.

- Something that links up pretty well internationally. We've moved from Melbourne, Australia, and we both intend to travel back there, as well as elsewhere in the world, and it would be nice if we could just stick with the one bank/credit union without trouble. I know that'd likely be Bank of America, but we've not heard great things about it, so if someone knows something better, we'd like to know about it.

Any other recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated, too, of course. Thanks!

Broadband ISP in Las Vegas

What's the best broadband ISP to subscribe to in Las Vegas? I'm going to be living in Las Vegas, Nevada soon. Has anyone got any recommendations for a broadband ISP to connect my home with? I'm not sure where I'll be living, but most likely west or northwest (near Summerlin).

I use the internet heavily for web development, gaming, multimedia, etc. I need high bandwidth, for upload as well as download, and reliability. Several computers will be sharing the connection. If you could suggest what upload/download speed I can expect, that would be helpful! Price is flexible, but can easily spend $100/month.

Does it really rain as much in Las Vegas as it looks on CSI? It sure seems like it rains a lot in Las Vegas- at least in the Crime Scene Investigation version of Vegas. I know it rains about 4.5 inches a year, but anyone know how many days a year it rains in Las Vegas (and can compare it to how much it seems to rain in the show)?

How should I travel from Yosemite to Las Vegas sans car?

At end of August, am heading from SF to Yosemite by Amtrak train+thruway coach, staying in the middle of the park valley for a couple of nights, then heading to Las Vegas for a couple more nights and flight back to the UK. It looks like Amtrak coach+train to Bakersfield, stay overnight there, then coach to Las Vegas is the obvious itinerary, otherwise it would be an extremely long day's travel. Any other suggestions, or anywhere better to break the trip? Many thanks.

Vegas Strip Club for a Couple?

Any suggestions for a nice strip club in Las Vegas for a couple?? My boy and I have never been to a strip club, but I have always been interested! We are both into girls (he's straight and I'm bi) and we are in Vegas for 2 weeks.
What we don't want is to end up at a REALLY nasty sketchy club. Is there a place out there we'd both enjoy?? Ideally, we would like to find girls that are most like the girl next door type. Does that even exist here!?

How do casinos in Las Vegas get their glasses back?

How do casinos in Las Vegas get their glasses back when you walk them down the strip? Las Vegas seems to have no problem with you walking around on the street with any type of alcoholic drink, and there have been a few times I've inadvertently walked out of a casino with a whiskey glass and deposited it in a different casino when it was empty.

I usually feel bad about this, but I see many people doing the same, so I figure there must be some kind of system in place to deal with it. Maybe there is a glassware-sharing program, maybe the casinos agree to sort them and deliver them back to their rightful owners, or maybe losing glasses is just part of the overhead of running a casino and they're just written off.

Need help preparing for a budget vacation in vegas

Need help preparing for a budget vacation in Vegas. We are a couple in out late 20's going to vegas in end of may (Sat to Tue). Planning on staying on the strip and no car. Looking for recommendations on hotels, food, shows, bars, clubs, etc ... (not interested in gambling)
1. Guide book - Thinking of buying The Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas 2009. Anything better?
2. Hotel - Currently I'm thinking of Luxor ($50 per night) and they have spa suites and I'm willing to spend the extra money to get it, but found some review on the internet saying that the Jacuzzi is small and it's kind of a rip-off. Any experience with that? Mandala bay seems to be good but $200 for a regular rooms seems little bit too much. suggestions on other hotels welcome.
3. Food - We would like to have one fancy (not super fancy) sit down dinner for a special occasion under $80 for two. is it possible?
4. Food - Other fun places, buffets to eat? Sometime back I saw a program on Travel Channel on $2 shrimp cocktails, $3 huge burgers, etc ... can we find any on the strip? or all these places out of the strip? if so can we get there easily without a taxi?
5. Shows - Any good shows that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? If dinner is included it's a plus. We've been to the Tournament of Knights in Excalibur and liked it. Thinking of going to 'Fantasy' at Luxor.
6. Bars & Clubs - Places where regular people hangout. Doesn't need to go to the hottest club on town with celebrities, just a regular place to have a drink/dance is ok. Doesn't like to stand in a line for an hour and take crap from a bouncer just because of my skin color(I'm a foreigner).
7. Bars & Clubs - What are some bars that are on top floors overlooking the strip? (If I'm correct no matter how great, bars doesn't have lines unlike clubs?)
Any other suggestions welcome.
P.S. - I have gone through most of the past AskMeFi threads.
The where, the what and the how of getting hitched in Vegas, when you have friends coming from overseas.

(Several questions in one. Sorry.) We're getting hitched in Vegas, and friends are traveling from overseas. Help us plan out some basic wedding stuff (like location, wedding bands, etc.), as well as how to make our friends' stay enjoyable. Okay, so this one might be a doozy.

The Australian and I are getting hitched in Vegas, then going to live in the Summerlin area. A few of our friends from various places overseas are going to come to the wedding, which means a lot to us. We're trying to make things very accommodating for those traveling far, and we're looking for some information regarding that, as well as just basic wedding ideas.

Okay, to the nitty-gritty...

1. Where's a good, non-chapel place to get married in October? Bonus points for somewhere pretty and outdoors.
We looked through the plethora of previous questions like this, but most of them resulted in chapel answers for obvious Vegas reasons. We aren't religious, though, and we don't want to have the wedding in a chapel. Our group will be small. 15-25, I imagine.

2. I need a wedding dress lulz.
I don't believe in spending an arm and a leg on something that's only going to be used once. Pretty and simple and appropriate for the October weather. I'm happy to look into fairly unknown designers. I wanted this dress, but I narrowly missed out on it. I may yet get her to design something for me, but I am open to suggestions.

3. Where's a good place--online or off--to get wedding bands?

4. Where should we have an after-wedding dinner?
Saw a similar question on MeFi, but the answers were a bit too casual for us, mainly because part of my family is prudish, fundamentalist Christians, so I'm already pushing the envelope with a Vegas wedding here. Doesn't have to be hugely expensive or anything, just no slot machines by the table or barely-contained ta tas coming to take your order.

5. It's a long way off yet, but anyone know of entertaining things to do or events that will be going on in the weeks surrounding the 28th of October, 2009?
We have a few friends flying to us from Norway, as well as Australia. Big and expensive trip, clearly. We want to make sure they have more than just us to see, so ideas of where they could go with us would be great. :) Any big conventions or events would be welcome. Most of us are geeks and artists.

Thanks, guys!

6 Days to Drive from Denver to Las Vegas?

We live in the East and have never visited the mountain states or the southwest.

Our plan is to fly to Denver in mid-September and then drive to Las Vegas via southern Utah, where we hope to see some of the major sights like Bryce Canyon, Zion NP and Monument Valley. We're going to have six or seven days for that part of our trip, plus another four days to spend in Las Vegas and the surrounding area before we fly home.

Does this sound like a reasonable plan? And, given the amount of time we have, what are the most important things that we should see and do?

We're middle-aged, we usually like to avoid crowds and tourist traps, and we're probably not going to want to hike for more than three or four hours at a time.

Buffets? No Way

Vegas FoodFilter Emergency:

BF and I are in Vegas for a confrence and the entire place is giving him a massive stress headache. Any ideas on quiet, off-strip places to eat/recover? Let's say we're going to see Penn & Teller tonight at 9. (we are) Where can we eat afterwards/before that is not crowded, within walking distance, and not super expensive?

Restrictions and example below -we don't have a car
-we don't mind walking
-We're staying at the Paris
-So far, every food experience inside a casino has been horrible.
-We don't want to have to wait on a fraking line just get a stupid, soggy buffet.

Where are you going, Ronaldo?

Help me identify a song my grandmother with Alzheimers sings sometimes: "Where are you going Ronaldo? I go to Las Vegas"... My grandma sings this song sometimes and I haven't been able to find it on google. The lyrics she sings are:

Where are you going, Ronaldo?
I go to Las Vegas.

Has anyone heard this song before? Grandma's in her 80s and the song is likely very old-school. I'd like to hear the complete version or know who sang it. Thanks!

Do I have to show up in person at a casino sportsbook to redeem a winning futures bet? Back in September, I placed a futures bet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. If my team wins the NCAA basketball tournament in April, will I have to fly back to Vegas to redeem my ticket in person? Or can I mail it in, or redeem it online, or something else? Googling for anything gambling related is next to useless. I got Duke at 10:1, by the way - Go Devils!

We're going to Las Vegas for New Year's Eve and also the next night. We're staying at the Stratosphere, and are avoiding ridiculously priced "parties" hosted by celebs. Do you have any advice on navigating the Strip, fun free places to go, special public events, and where to watch the fireworks (and do those happen at midnight, or earlier?)? I'm familiar with Vegas--I just want New Year's Eve specific advice. Thanks!

Can someone direct me to a good tattoo shop in Las Vegas? I'll be leaving for Vegas in about 4 hours (!) and decided that a good souvenir would be a tattoo. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of GOOD tattoo artists in Las Vegas. Location (on-strip, off-strip, etc) is not important. I'm mainly into traditional tattoos. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll probably be checking the answers on my phone, so I may not have the ability to respond until I get there later this evening. Thanks in advance!

Need to find charter flights from Dallas to Las Vegas. If I understand correctly, most charter airlines aren't listed in Expedia, Kayak and other similar sites, so I'm looking for the names of said airlines or their websites so I can check prices for a weekend charter flight from Dallas to Las Vegas.

Where can I stay in Vegas next weekend whilst volunteering for Obama? I'm flying into Vegas Fri. night and out Mon. morning to work for the Obama campaign. There is a list of special-rate hotels from the campaign.

But, i really don't want to stay at any of them, unless one is more decent than all available info implies (the ones on the Strip like Bally's dont have a good rate for the weekend I'm going, 24th-27th- its like $180 and I'd really prefer to stay under $100.)

Some of the reviews for the others are just brutal, and just the word "Fremont St." makes me want to run for the hills. I would just to stay somewhere clean, quiet, and affordable. I want to avoid that whole desperate, hooker-y, "gambling away your last $5" milieu if I can. I don't know the location of where I'll be working, but I'll be renting a car i think.

I am also strongly considering airbedandbreakfast.com, which was also recommended by the campaign. Anyone have any experience with them?

Or is there another option I'm not thinking of?

Thanks!

Hiring a Las Vegas wedding photographer on 10 days notice?

With 10 days notice, can I find a reputable photographer in Las Vegas to work my evening wedding festivities? Specific recommendations welcome, but general advice also needed. With 10 days remaining before my wedding, my in-laws have decided that a photographer is a must. My fiancée and I had previously decided against pro photography, and thus did no research on the topic prior to yesterday. Previous Ask threads have been devoured, but I could really use some specific info to assist my hunt.

Assuming that I find a reputable LV photog of moderate cost, with 10 days notice what sort of hourly rate should I expect - or should I expect a flat event fee? Should I expect surcharges for late night/early morning service?

Assuming that I provide transport, are photogs cool with going to 4 or 5 destinations over the course of an event? If we engaged the photog to take pictures during our dinner or lounge/club visits, what is the etiquette or expectation for them sitting, eating or drinking with us?

What sort of ownership of the resultant photos should I expect? Optimally, I'd like to have access to print-quality digital images (after processing if that's the photog's process) and I'd like to have the right to do whatever I want with them in perpetuity. Should I expect an arrangement other than that?

Thanks in advance for any tips, anecdotes or recommendations.

Limos in Vegas: Specific advice and general tips?

Limos in Vegas: Seeking specific advice and general tips. Can you recommend a limo service in Vegas that represents a good value? I'd prefer a lower rate to fancier cars, but the cars still have to be relatively modern and not likely to be... disheartening in any way.

I need to get 14 people from the MGM Grand to the Little White Wedding Chapel (which is 1/2 mile past the Stratosphere) and then from there to the Mandalay Bay about 30 minutes-1 hour later. Starting at about 9:30 in the morning on a Wednesday in October, hopefully at our final destination at 11:00 am.

Basically, my needs are two 15-minute rides spaced approx. 1 hour apart, but I'm thinking I'll have to book cars for 2 consecutive hours in order to ensure they're readily available to depart the chapel when we need to.

Any thoughts on how to book this, and with whom? If you could suggest tipping standards for the above scenario or your alternates, I'd be obliged. When & how much to tip, particularly.

Which restaurants were in the Stardust Hotel in 1989?

Which restaurants were in the Stardust Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in/around 1989, and what was the Stardust like at the time? I need some details for a story I'm working on: does anyone remember which restaurants/bars/buffets/etc were in the Stardust around late 1989 or early 1990? I've Googled for it, but most of the info on the Stardust is either older or newer than that period, for obvious reasons. The name and type of restaurant is enough, but any details you can give me would also be lovely. General memories/thoughts on the atmosphere at the Stardust at the time wouldn't be amiss, either.

Thanks for the memories!

Las Vegas elopement filter: The bf and I would like to elope in Vegas. We're looking for the tackiest Vegas we can find; think fat Elvis, pink champagne, etc. What do you recommend? Money isn't too much of an issue, but no need to overspend.
Any guidance on chapels, hotels, packages, etc. would be great. The words tasteful, classy, elegant, etc. will not be appreciated! TIA!

How to repay a free debt?

How do you repay someone who has made your past 1+ year so nice and easy? My specific information inside... With the amount my girlfriend travels for work she has a large amount of flyer miles and hotel points. She always decides to use them on trips for us and next week we are leaving for Las Vegas. Since this is one of the bigger trips we have taken together, I really want to show my appreciation because just telling her isn't enough.

I doesn't have to be a nice 'gift' really. She gets her share of those and is very hard to shop for. Instead I would like to do something or plan something nice for her. I thought about paying for all the food for the week or all the attractions we are going to but is that good enough? Is there maybe something in Vegas that I can do for her there that is unique?

She is very hard to do things for because she is very independent for a 23 year old.

All suggestions are welcome!
