I just bought a airport express to listen to my tunes on my stereo in the living room. Since the AP-Express will only play music through itunes anyone point me in a direction to do the following: I would like to create a station in lastfm and have it stream through itunes. Anyone aware of a freeware solution. Imac 10.5.8

Is there an alternative to the official last.fm desktop application for scrobbling tracks to iTunes? I've just discovered that the last.fm scrobbling application is responsible for my iTunes' recent excruciating slowness. Awesome, except I miss keeping track of all of the songs I play. Is there an alternative application that will do the same thing? I'm on Snow Leopard, using iTunes 9. Bonus points for Growl compatibility.

Does anyone know of Greasemonkey script for to add Spotify links to Amazon.co.uk pages?

I don't want to betray anyone's trade secrets here, but what is the html or js code or query string for pulling in playlists from Last.fm, as is done for us on our profile pages? Been searching a bit here and on last.FM, and am not finding it. Also welcome any other resources that interact similarly with other social networking sites. Thanks?

How do I synchronise Facebook with YouTube and Last.fm?

When I favourite a video on YouTube, it turns up in my Facebook feed. Same with Last.fm - when I favourite a track, all my Facebook friends can see. Apparently at some point I synchronised Facebook with YouTube and Last.fm. The problem is, I don't know how I synchronised the accounts, so I can't replicate it or show anyone else how to do it for themselves. Can anyone advise?

Last.fm Scrobbler and firewall woes

Is there a specific file in which the last.fm scrobbler caches scrobbled music which has not been uploaded? I am stuck behind a corporate firewall at work which prevents the last.fm scrobbler from uploading the tracks I've listened to. I'm not interested in bypassing the firewall at work but instead am wondering if it's possible instead to transfer a file to my home PC so that the cached tracks can be uploaded by the copy of the scrobbler running on that machine. Any thoughts appreciated.

Experimental Composers

MusicFilter: Looking for alternative/experimental composers in a similar vein to Moondog, Terry Riley, Erik Satie and La Monte Young. I wish to fill my ears full of surreal orchestral wonders. Moondog is my main starting point for this.

I also add Arthur Russell to the list with a strict focus on his 'First Thought Best Thought' arrangements... and John Zorn with his 'Music for Children' in mind... I love Brian Eno, but focussing on him might send this post too far in the ambient direction.

I realise I could go to Last.fm or similar music communities, but I am looking for that subjective sense one has that links musical styles together, rather than something lodged in rigid genres, structures or histories. I hope these names and works job something in your Meta-minds.

Will Streaming Music Ruin My Neighbor's Life?

My neighbor kindly gave me the key to her (Airport) wireless network Pt 2 (Pt 1 here). OK - so I'm on, in Ubuntu, and I've been streaming lastfm for the past few days. And then just now I thought, "am I slowing down her network access by streaming music whilst she's online?" Or is the difference negligable? My prime concern here is that I don't want to repay her kindness by ruining her life.

Let me in, goddammit!

Why can't I log into my Last FM account? When I click on the last.fm icon in my profile, it takes me to my user page. When I then try to log in, it either takes me to this page, or this page--both of which are blank. Refreshing doesn't seem to make any difference, and I've tried logging in multiple times to no avail. The username and password are both correct (I'm sure of it), and even if anyone of them was wrong--wouldn't it tell me that I'd typed in the wrong username/password, and to retype it. I don't know if there's something up with last fm, or if it's a problem at my end... would anyone mind checking it out to see what the matter is. Thanks!

PS. Any suggestions on how to get back into my account would also be appreciated.

Say I wanted to fill the genre tags of my whole mp3 library automatically. Say I trusted the last.fm community enough to use the three most used tags for a certain song/album listed there (for example: New Order's Ceremony would get "80s" "new wave" and "post-punk"). Say I wanted to do this automatically. Say I had a Mac. How would I go about this? I hate that none of the software I know adds genre tags automatically. And yeah, I know that people think differently about different genres, but I'm willing to overlook that and just go for the most common genre "opinion" for now. This seems like a nice solution - I know it would go wrong on occasions, but it seems quite accurate overall.

I know /some/ Ruby. I'm not really proficient at it, but I could learn. Or can you think of a better way?

Suppressing last.fm client in other Vista accounts

I share a Vista machine with my wife, and I use the last.fm client in my account. My wife isn't a last.fm user, but the client keeps popping up in her account and prompting her to sign up. How can I suppress this? The last.fm forums, strangely, are no help.

iPod and iTunes are no longer on speaking terms.

My iPod and iTunes are no longer cooperating. Every attempt to sync maxes out my memory use and hangs the iTunes app. I seem to have offended iTunes.

I have a 30GB iPod Video. At the moment, it has about 27GB of content, all music. Until the other day, I had my iTunes library (PC) sync'd with my iPod via iTunes. Just seemed simpler that way. Well, retail interest got the better of me and I made a music purchase through Lala.com's new direct-to-iPod venture. How that works is you download a piece of Lala branded software, a plug-in basically, that not only allows their website to see the contents of your iPod, but allows the customer to "sync" songs purchased from Lala directly onto the iPod, circumventing iTunes.

This did not work initially, because (as stated) iTunes would start when the iPod was connected and would immediately sync. The Lala track would be copied over, but the disconnect clean-up part of the iTunes sync would spot the interloping files and nix them. Annoying. Lala's support page says that one should switch from sync to manually manage in iTunes. So I did so. As advised, a second attempt to "sync" with Lala was a success. My purchased Lala music was on my iPod.

This morning, I plugged in my iPod to add another set of ripped mp3s from a new CD. Though I had set iPod to manual, it gave the standard "Syncing iPod, do not disconnect" message atop iTunes. iTunes then commenced to hanging, but not before my LastFM scrobbler told me that it had found over 2,000 songs dating back to 2005. Something was wrong. I killed iTunes through Task Manager (it was "Not Responding" and memory use was at 100%). My iPod was still giving the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, so I rebooted it to disconnect.

I'd no time to mess with it further this morning. I backed up my iTunes library folder to an external drive and went to work.

This evening, I uninstalled iTunes according to Apple's instructions, then re-installed with the latest download. iTunes found my existing music library. Connecting the iPod gave the same results as before. Sync commenced immediately, then hung.

Additionally, I uninstalled all of the little iTunes monitoring apps like LastFM, MOG and Audioscrobbler. As well as the Lala plug-in.

I reopened iTunes (after killing the process, rebooting the iPod, etc) and deleted all of the media in the library. It is backed up, after all. Connecting the iPod gave the same results as before. Sync commenced immediately, then hung.

So I went into my Application Data and deleted the preference files for iTunes. This time, when I started iTunes, I was prompted with the EULA, then the find my music dialogue. I told iTunes not to search, so now my library was truly empty and fresh. But yet ... Connecting the iPod gave the same results as before. Sync commenced immediately, then hung. (Why yes, I am copying/pasting this last bit.)

Next, I tried a new trick. If you hold down Shift-Ctrl while plugging in the iPod, sync will not commence immediately. This looked like a win, as I thought I'd be able to change my settings back to auto-sync, select Apply and go. But one more time ... hitting Apply gave the "Syncing iPod, do not disconnect" message, but it wasn't syncing. It was hung.

I tried the Shift-Click again. This time, I hit Restore. And .... iTunes hung.

So ... I have an empty iTunes. I have an almost full iPod. But I'm unable to put new songs on the iPod or take existing songs off. What to do now? Re-install again? Is there a way to Restore without iTunes? Might this be an effect of the most recent iTunes software update? If so, can I roll it back? Or wait out the next update?

Are there any 'famous' last.fm users - such as musicians, journalists, authors, major bloggers? I'm up for discovering some new music - and I thought it would be very cool if any of my favourite musicians had a Last.fm profile - any ideas?

Where do they get all those wonderful data?

WhereTheHellDoTheyGetAllThatData Filter: When someone wants to start a site that requires huge amounts of data like IMDB or Pandora or Last.FM, where do they get the data? I can't really see that they take the time to find all the data sources and compile and link it all together into a database format. There has to be some place where they get the data. Another example is a mapping site like Mapquest or Google Maps. I know Google has more money than God or whatever, but where does such a huge amount of data come from?

Then, the side note, is how the hell do they go about processing it or relating it all together to produce a product like Pandora?

I am interested in this partly from a pure curiosity standpoint and partly from an IfIEverWantedToDoSomethingSimilar standpoint.

My computer was stolen, I used lastfm...is this a long shot or not? Okay, so a week ago house was robbed and my computer was stolen. I had lastfm installed to log my songs.

Tonight I was on my myspace(shutup) where I have a little box from lastfm saying my most recently played tracks. I saw a song that I don't recall every listening to...so I click and go look at my recent tracks. There is a lot of activity on the 24th and some on the 29th. I haven't had my computer since the 20th. (This is a loaner computer and I have neither my music on here, nor iTunes)

Is there ANY way that this can help me? That whoever stole my computer is listening to my music and lastfm is logging it?

I know nothing about computers or internets or ip addresses or anything...so be gentle, but tell me if this is a shot in the dark or if this can maybe help me out somehow...

Are there internet radio streams that play (a) contemporary classical (I love Max Richter and Jóhann Jóhannsson; I don't care for Philip Jeck) or (b) folk-y artists like James Yorkston, Marissa Nadler, Vashti Bunyan, and Emilíana Torrini? I accidentally deleted all the music on my laptop. Don't worry -- I made a copy two weeks ago -- but it's not nearby, and I'm busy all this week. For the time being I can take advantage of my nearly-free broadband and listen to streams. I'd prefer single-genre streams (more or less), but I'll take what I can get.

Radio Darvish is great, but not all the time. Ditto Espace Musique.

Twonkyvision anyone?

Is anyone familar with the Twonky Vision server, if so, is it possible to run lastfm through it and if you have done it can you tell me how you did it? I have been using net gears mp 101 for over a year with TwonkyVision UPnP, it works fine and I love it, but it would be ten to the hundredth powered squared if I could get it to work with lastfm. Any program geeks out there need a project? Tanks kids for any and all replies.
