I have a well aged Dell e1505. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 11.6"/12.1" sized AMD Fusion based netbook. Performance-wise, will I suffer a setback, be about equal, or ahead of my Dell?

Follow up to previous question....4yo Dell Inspiron laptop suddenly giving me the old "Plugged in but not charging" routine. Froze the battery for a day but no luck. So I bought a nice new one from Amazon that charged right up and worked for a week. No this one is giving me the same message. Any ideas? Or a place to turn to troubleshoot things? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello. I have a 4yo Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop and about a 10 days ago it stopped charging. It said, "0% available, plugged in but not charging". Took the battery out and put it back in a couple of times and it went back to normal, charged up fine. It happened 2 other times but it went back to charging. However, now it seems to be stuck in the - "plugged in but not charging mode". Any ideas? Thanks

Is my (partner's) laptop display kaput? It alternates between a blank screen (although the backlight is on) and strange wavy pink-green effects.
The system outputs to an external monitor, and I've updated the bios and display drivers. I have also taken off and apart the screen to check the cable connections, with no change. What's happened? Motherboard? Display? Cable? Specs inside.

I am not a computer repair person, and apparently, don't know if I trust those who are.
I recently had a problem with the frame around the screen of my laptop (Dell Inspiron, about 5 years old). I took it to a shop to be repaired, and while there I mentioned that the computer was running a bit slowly, and asked if they could also install more RAM (if that might make it run faster). The technician said yes, and for the same price of installing the RAM, he would give it their tune up service.

My laptop died a few days ago. I'm probably starting a new job next week for which I will need a laptop. The deceased was a one-year-old (JUSt out of warranty) Dell Inspiron 1464 whose motherboard got fried from unknown causes (possibly because it was sitting and idling in a hot part of the house with no way to dissipate the heat). It cost me about $500-something and we were a good team. Question: Should I just get another one of those or try for an upgrade within that same price range?

My friend is currently out serving somewhere in the middle east for the next six months and would like some new computer games to play. The problem is that he has absolutely no internet connection so anything that needs to go online (eg. multiplayer or - more annoyingly - DRM) won't work. What good games can you recommend I buy and post to him?

Laptop diagnosis? XP sp3, Dell inspiron 6000. The other day it just died while I was using it. Just powered down (instant black screen). When I tried to power it up, I could hear it coming alive for about 8 seconds, some lights flashed as you would expect, then it died. If you wait 24 hours or so, it will boot up normally, but after about 10 minutes it will die, as above, and then the next day will start up again for a bit, then die, etc etc.

About a week ago, I purchased a laptop. When I finally got it, the laptop didn't have the specs advertised. When I wrote the company, they said it was a mistake and I could send the laptop back for a refund. The problem? I could've bought it cheaper (and gotten it sooner) from another company, but now that deal is gone.

ParadoxOfChoiceFilter: For the first time in a long time, I have the financial assets to get a good computer. I definitely need a new laptop soon, but have fond memories of the awesome graphical power of the desktop. In terms of graphical processing power, given that I need a laptop either way, does it make more sense for me to split between a laptop and a desktop than to spend it on one very expensive laptop? Either way, what are my mid-to-high end laptop/desktop options?
