My Aspire 5003WLMi laptop collects dust, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to remove the bottom cover to get at it. I can get parts out - DVD & hard drives - but that's about it. I've tried all visible screws, and shone lights into all holes. Help?!

Like many people, I've got wireless router issues (Netgear MR814v2 -- yeah, it's getting old). I'm troubleshooting them as I can and haven't found anything that should be interfering, and all my firmware is up to date. Putting that to one side, I'm pretty tired of running down and up the stairs to unplug the router and plug it back in again (six to 10 times a day). My diagnostics show I've got connectivity between the computer and the router even when I can't connect to the Internet. Is there some way to reboot the router from my computer?

How difficult is it to get a replacement from Staples using their protection plan? There's nothing wrong with the item in question, but I'd like to sell it and if I can replace it for a new one I imagine I could get more for it.
Also, is there any way to transfer the plan to a buyer since there's still over a year on it?

The Pre-School my son attends has had a used laptop donated to it. The person who donated it has said that they've wiped the drive and done a clean install of Windows onto it. Any tips for doing a quick "Health Check" of the laptop before we let it into the wild.

Help set me up: I am looking to buy my son a laptop. An
inexpensive laptop. It should have a strong enough graphics card to run, say, MineCraft and other games/video smoothly; should have a webcam. Otherwise, it will be used for general schoolwork and internetting, and maybe some light music recording. Screen size is not important, so small displays are OK. So: new or used? Or buy a cheap one and upgrade the graphics card? What specs should I aim for? Any sources/sites that are better for finding good deals? I am wishing to find something for $200--am I wishing too hard?
Thanks!!

What would cause the laptop to be so slow right out of the box? I was given a "new" computer at work. It is a
HP Business Notebook PC with the product model =
Compaq 8510p. It is so slow opening and closing windows, launching programs and starting up and shutting down--then sometimes freezes up. It is 3 years old and the warranty has expired as I was told by the HP helpdesk. I have searched the web and asked a few IT friends what the heck it could be since it has never been used.
My boss doesn't want to hear any complaints about it since it's new out of the box--he figures it should be working perfectly. Should I take it to a PC shop to get it optimized or diagnosed in some way? It's driving me crazy! What could be causing this?
