I would like to save up for a new laptop. My current laptop is an original (2006) black MacBook. Should I save up for a new/refurb MacBook [Pro/Air], or are there less expensive but high-quality PC laptops out there? [more inside]

What tech specs are most essential for working remotely via Citrix? Longtime Mac user here, have never bought a Windows machine. I need to buy a laptop to work remotely for my job (paralegal at a mid-size law firm). I will be logged into my Firm's network, and running a variety of software programs off Citrix (iManage Desksite, Filesurf, Word, Hotdocs template manager, Adobe Professional, etc). What key features should I be looking for? Is 8GB of RAM enough? Recommendations for specific brand names are also welcome.

I am currently writing my second novel and find myself in need of a new laptop on which to do the work. My previous machine, an aged Acer Aspire One, struggled through the first book but has now given up the ghost and gone to the great laptop skip in the sky.
So, here is what I need: [more inside]

I desire a new bag. Something sturdy to carry my laptop* and books in. Something I can easily kart around on my bicycle (on my back, shoulder, or otherwise a flexible paneer). I'm based in London, UK. Budget floating around £100ish. Give me inspiration people! [more inside]

Is there a tool online that might be able to tell me what parameters I would want for a new computer (probably laptop) given my current patterns of use? Looking in stores leads me to think I don't need the high end models but I'd hate to buy something only to find out I should have sprung for the extra RAM. [more inside]

I'm looking to buy a sub-£500 laptop in the UK online. I've checked out Amazon
. Dixons seems to have a good range of solid models & features vs. price point. Although, I can't get any manufacturer's guarantee (a.k.a. warranty) information from them.
Can anyone recommend any other reputable vendors?

Is "Best Buy exclusive" a warning sign?
A friend is looking at a laptop at Best Buy now; the specs are identical to those sold online, but the price is significantly lower (at least today). Does that mean there are corners cut somewhere? [more inside]

I'm in the market for a new laptop. While I'd be happy to hear suggestions on what to get, what I'm really interested in is making sure I can take advantage of holiday sales to get a great deal. So where should I be looking? What websites should I keep an eye on? (Specifics inside) [more inside]

My uncle is looking for a laptop with a certain set of specs. He saw a Sony laptop like it, but he's wondering if there's a laptop with the same specs, but more wallet friendly. [more inside]

Where can I see a Dell Adamo (not the new XPS, but the one that was released last year) in person, in the San Francisco Bay Area? Frys doesn't seem to carry it, and I don't know who else would. I'm considering buying one, and want to handle it and check out the keyboard, weight, etc., in person, before making a decision.
Thanks for any help you can provide :-)

Looking for the perfect laptop for traveling. Priorities are durability, lightness, and battery life, in that order. Performance is not too important, but it must run Windows 7 like a champ. Willing to consider netbooks. [more inside]

I might be in the market for a new laptop. Should I bother trying to get a new laptop, or should I just buy a third battery for a current laptop and switch the batteries out mid-class? [more inside]

I'm going to the states for the first time in October this year (08) and would like to take advantage of the GBP / Dollar ratio at the moment to pick up a laptop whilst I'm there - something around the £500 / $1000 dollar mark.
I'm staying in the Marriott in Brooklyn, so am planning to travel around by public transport - can anyone recommend a decent laptop store in the area where I can pick one up? Wintel, not Mac - I work with too many other wintel devices to make the switch just yet.

I am looking to buy my first ever laptop. What I would like to know are the following oddities that I haven't gotten much info on yet:
1) Is there typically a time of year when companies all roll out there new systems? And I might be able to take advantage of sales on new systems, or on year old systems?
2) It doesn't seem like Bluetooth is available on very many midrange systems based on my initial scans, do I really need Bluetooth or just want it (for cell phone interaction now, other components in the future perhaps).
3) Are Intel processors really that much better than AMD, or is the extra money to spend on them not the best value?
4) If all I am concerned about is speed, does Vista really slow a new system down a whole lot to be concerned?

What is the physically smallest laptop capable of running OS X? I'm only interested in word processing and light web browsing, so I have no prejudice against old models -- in fact, I'd prefer an older model if it's cheaper. [more inside]
