E-ink tablet wirelessly mirrors laptop?

My computer is inside my apartment; my e-ink tablet is in the backyard; both are on the same wireless network. The tablet both (1) mirrors everything on the computer and (2) serves as a wireless keyboard and mouse, sending my touch commands to the computer. How close to this setup am I able to come right now? 13 or 15 inch macbook for Ableton Live?

I want to buy a new Retina Macbook Pro for live performances with Ableton Live. For all other purposes I'd go with the 13-inch model because it is more portable, but I'm worried that 1) the screen will be too small to see all the tracks, or 2) the dual-core processor won't be fast enough compared to the quad-core in 15-inch models. Can anyone speak from experience? Was a 13" good enough?

Are laptop screen parts autodetected by the system?

Can I simply physically replace the 1366*768 LCD in my HP EliteBook 8440p with the 1600*900 part and have the laptop autodetect the new screen and show the proper resolution? Or is there extra logic or connectors or dongles or whatever in the main body that must also be modified in order for the display to work, (or maybe it Just Won't Work)? Put simply, is HP 594090-001 plug-and-play? [more inside]

Remote Desktop Connection woes

My work computer is a laptop running Windows 7. I am working far from my office this week (as I often do) and I connect to my work server through Remote Desktop Connection. Typically this is pretty much problem-free, but for the last two or three days, when I log in to the server, I am seeing the server's desktop not as a full screen, but in a window about 10" wide on my 17.3" laptop screen. As well, while the laptop's screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, the window looks to be 4:3. Attempting to resize the window through the Maximize/Restore Down icon avails me naught: I can mouse over the edges of the window and drag it to a new size, but it maxes out at the size that I mention, which covers maybe 60% of the screen's real estate. Numerous reboots and resets have not rectified it and I am at a loss as to how to proceed. [more inside]

Laptop got wet. Now the screen is really bright.

About a month ago, I spilled some water on my laptop. So I let everything dry out. It works again, but now the screen is very bright, as if the contrast is turned way up. After searching the internet, I learned that the problem could be a damaged inverter so I ordered and installed a new one. But no dice. The screen is still really bright. Any ideas of what might be the problem? [more inside]

Laptop display gone wild. Help!

Is my (partner's) laptop display kaput? It alternates between a blank screen (although the backlight is on) and strange wavy pink-green effects. The system outputs to an external monitor, and I've updated the bios and display drivers. I have also taken off and apart the screen to check the cable connections, with no change. What's happened? Motherboard? Display? Cable? Specs inside. [more inside]

Using a laptop screen as a display for a different laptop.

My laptop has a broken screen. Before I send it off for repair, I need to back it up, but I can't do that without a screen. I don't have access to a monitor to plug it into, but I do have two other working laptops available. Can I somehow hook them up so I can use one of the working screens with the broken laptop? Black smudge on laptop screen

My laptop (Acer Aspire 3810T) fell about 2 feet onto a carpeted floor. It was closed, but now I have a black smudge on the bottom right corner of the screen (by the way, the smudge disappeared after a few minutes, but has now reappeared and is not going away). It is annoying but I can still work with it since it is not completely opaque. After extensive googling and chatting with Acer support, I think the LCD may have ruptured. However, can I continue using the laptop or is the display going to get progressively worse and die soon? Although it is still within the warranty period, I think I may have to pay for repairs (since the techs may figure out that it was dropped). Thank you in advance.

Help Using a Laptop Without a Backlight

Today my laptop's backlight stopped working. The screen is visible, but very dim. I can't repair it immediately (if it's even worth it).
