I'm choosing between 2 laptops, identical except for processor & RAM. I'm unlikely to buy more RAM, and thinking the one with more RAM will be generally better than the one with the better processor, all else being equal. I tend to keep lots of stuff running, and max out RAM on my current

I'm buying a new laptop, and I need to be able to watch a lot of live-streaming on the web on it. So which is more important for that, RAM or CPU speed? [more inside]

Buying a new laptop, I have worked down to 2 choices. One has Win7 (32-bit) and 4gb DDR2 ram, the other has Win7 (64-bit) with 3gb DDR3 ram. Same price. I don't really know enough about the difference between 32/64bit or DDR2/3 to make a decision. Can you explain the difference and offer advice as to which is best. [more inside]

I inherited a barely-used 2004 Dell laptop, Pentium M 1600 MHz, 30 GB hard drive, Windows XP, Mobility Radeon 9000, 512 MB RAM.
Is it worth reformatting and upgrading the RAM to its 2 GB max (at $100), for a few more years of basic internet and Open Office, or as a whole will it forever lag in current-and-near-future contexts?
It could be a decent tool for my commuter days as an undergrad, though it is currently far too slow going to be productive or entertaining.
Thanks for ideas!

Oh little RAM, where are you? 512MB module doesn't want to play along new 2GB module. [more inside]

BSODFilter: I tried to install a RAM upgrade in my girlfriend's Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop, and got nothing on screen after powerup. So I replaced the old DIMM, and got the BSOD -- the file that was missing was a driver for the Intel video adapter. Long story short, it's still not working. [more inside]

Shopping for a cheap used laptop: What are the minimum specs I should be looking for with respect to CPU, RAM, HD? I'm planning to use WinXP (maybe I'll settle for 2K), Open Office, and FireFox (including some AJAX-heavy web sites such as gmail, Google Docs, del.icio.us), with a wifi card. And not much else. I want to avoid "I'm always waiting for this stupid slow computer!" but not spend much more than the minimum needed to avoid that.

Will I be at any disadvantage if I buy the most basic of the Macbooks? What would I NOT be able to do that I might have to do? This would be my first laptop, I'm on a limited budget (less than $1300), and I live both inside and outside the United States, so I have a few (sub-)questions. [more inside]

I own a used IBM 600X Laptop with very little Ram. Would anyone know the maximum amount of Ram I can install. Also what is the model number or description of the Ram I should purchase from a computer store? Thanks in advance.
