I was "let go" from work the other day - I had already been on probation due to a bad review. The review was full of incorrect statements, which I had proof of but I didn't put up a fuss. I was given requirements to fulfill to show improvement. I met those times 3. They let me go anyway. I said that I had gone way farther even than I was asked to in the requirements, so why are you letting me go? The reason was "The decision has been made." I want to know, is this considered with cause, and can I get unemployment? BTW this is in Mass. [more inside]

There are many askme questions where answers are given that say "Have you asked to be laid off?". Have you or anyone you know done this successfully? My company is not laying off - when people leave or are let go or retire, they are just redistributing duties and not rehiring. [more inside]

(Asking for a friend). My friend was laid off from his salaried job in California last year (employer ran out of money, usual story). He was on vacation at the time and had had to take unpaid leave to go on the (long ago arranged) vacation, as the employer did not offer any paid leave.
