I'm getting ready to replace my 2009 Mac Pro, and I have just about decided to get a retina 5K iMac. The only place where it doesn't measure up to how I currently use my Pro (and would continue doing with a new Mac Pro) is in external display support. Right now I have two monitors on my desktop for work, and an old TV on the opposite side of my office for streaming stuff to. The current Pro runs all this just fine, but it appears the iMac is limited to one external display. [more inside]
I'm in need of a 4-port HDMI/USB KVM switch, and I'd much rather get a good one than a cheap one. Any recommendations? [more inside]
For years I've been doing all my work and a good percentage of my play on a single as-overpowered-as-possible desktop box. For a variety of reasons -- not least that I'm starting to give up hope that the Mac Pro line will ever be updated again -- I'm considering making the switch to several smaller, task-dedicated machines. I am going in circles trying to figure out how best to make them all work together on a hardware level -- I can't decide if I need a docking station or a KVM switch or both or neither, and if I do need them which ones should I get? Help me, hardware geeks! [more inside]
How can I best share a monitor, keyboard and Magic Trackpad between a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro? [more inside]
So this involves a whole bunch of computers (Linux, Windows (server), Windows (7) and Macs and 6 monitors a keyboard and a mouse. I am trying to find a way to dynamically assign a computer to one or more monitors, and change it around whenever needed. (So no monitor should be hardwired to a single machine) I am thinking of a super duper KVM switch but I havent been able to find one yet.

I have a handful of USB devices that I'd like to share between the 2-4 workstations/laptops at my desk. I don't need simultaneous access to a given device from multiple PC's, just the ability to switch which PC each device is assigned to. Here's the catch, though: I want to do the switching on a per-device basis, so standard USB switchboxes (that switch all USB devices at once) won't do the trick. Does such a device exist? I need a solid, 8-port USB rackmount KVM. I do not need PS/2 support, nor a KVM that cheats by converting PS/2 to USB, which does not work with Sun or Apple servers. I can do a Google search, but does anyone have recommendations? I'm on a budget and can spend about $500 or so.
