Nine days ago while working I *ran* into a countertop and bruised the top my right thigh - badly. At first the injury seemed to progress normally, getting better every day, but now not only is the bruise still there, but my knee hurts too. What now?

My father (age 79) has gone from keeping a cane in the car for occasional use to steady himself (through 2012) to being in terrible pain and needing a walker around the house (the latter after a Synvisc injection to the knee 2 weeks ago, knee swelling, and falling - again - at home alone). So far he hasn't broken anything in his falls, but I live 90 minutes away from him and he lives alone. He's accustomed to being quite active and has often been mistaken for a man 10-15 years his junior.

not to get surgery. How much physical activity can you still do?

I have an ACL injury from a motorcycle accident two years ago. I have noticed in the past 6 months it has gotten much worse. Should I excercise more or less? I don't have health insurance and have no way to get physical therapy at all and have already exhausted all free health-care options.

Knee problem filter: I have just started noticing a slight problem with my left knee. It feels like a dull pain in the joint and is worse when i walk and move my leg up and down. I do a lot of spinning, elliptical and walking. I am 26 years old and female.
-Is this serious? Should I see a doctor?
-Is there anything I could do to make it worse? Types of activities I should avoid?
-Any home care remedies that would help?
Thanks! I appreciate your help!

What did I do to my lower leg last night? Denial about a potentially torn knee ligament and long recovery time have me wondering (hoping) it's not that serious. More inside.

during training for my last marathon I've been having trouble with my left knee giving out and being extremely painful in the end, so about five weeks I got an MRI done. the recommendation my doc gave me was to not run at all for four weeks. it has now been five weeks and while I am pain free I am hesitant to pick up my training again because I don't feel it's working properly again. I am not sure how to communicate what my problem is to my doc and what to ask for.

I need an MRI of both my lower back and my left knee. The lady in scheduling told me I will have to be in the MRI for 40 minutes for my back, and then I'll come out and then have to go right back in for another 40 minutes for my knee. This doesn't seem right. Why can't I stay in the MRI machine for 40 minutes and then have my back and knee imaged at the same time?

Here and
here [pdfs] are the radiologist's 2-page MRI report. I'm not asking anyone to
interpret it or offer advice, but a
translation into layman's English would be helpful. Just a summary. Thank you.

Yesterday I started having sudden sharp pain and stiffness in my left knee, above and around the kneecap. I suspect I injured it doing squats and lunges (with bad form) the night before. Could it get better on its own, if I rest for a few days? Or should I see a doctor (and what kind)?
