My new place has original 1960's Geneva metal kitchen cabinets (and cook top and wall oven!) in mustard. I have found a lot of information on how to sell or repaint metal cabinets but nothing helpful on maintaining them. There are some scans of original instructions, which say to NOT use detergent and to use a special metal cabinet cleanser but do not say exactly what that cleanser is.
Does anyone have any tips?

Ugh, I left a load of dirty dishes in my dishwasher but forgot to run the cycle before a monthlong trip. Now it's full of mold and I'm not exactly sure if it's dangerous and how to clean it up (assuming I can still use the plates). [more inside]

My new roommate assured me during our initial interview of each other that she was very clean and that, in particular, she was committed to keeping communal spaces very neat and tidy. Fast forward a few months, and somehow I think I missed something. [more inside]

I'm interested in dishwashing practices in the developing world. If you were one of roughly the half of the people in the world without running water in your home
, how might you wash your dishes? What kind of set up would you have? Are sinks common even if you collect water from a public well or water truck
? Or would you have a washbasin/plastic tub? On a countertop, table, or floor? Cloth or tarp outside? Would you use non-potable water to do the washing up? Save the graywater for next time or for other cleaning tasks? [more inside]

Found this grub/maggot/larva
on kitchen table. (Apartment's kitchen, "dining area," living area are all connected.) Just a single bug, not a whole clutch of them. Should I be concerned? I kind of expected there would be more of them. Did it come out of the nearby fruit dish with apples and bananas? Do I have to do any radical cleaning? Is my kitchen that dirty?

how can i get better at washing dishes by hand? i am inefficient (it takes me lots of time, energy and water). my results are not always sparkling (some of the stuff i wash ends up kinda greasy). i am clumsy too (i feel like i break a wine glass every few sessions). also, i am rarely motivated to wash (in part because i'm objectively bad), so i also need some kind of kick in the pants in that regard too. Please suggest products that I should and should not use to clean different parts of the kitchen, such as a laminate counter top, stainless steel sink, or metal stove top. I am particularly interested in products that won't generate fumes that will send me out of the kitchen. [more inside]

I have a hardwood cutting board which has a bit of mildew growing into the wood on the bottom. The board has also slightly warped. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these two problems? And for the future, what are some good preventative maintenance tips (asides from keeping it dry) to keep things like this from happening again?

I just got some new stainless steel cookware, and now I have some (grease?) gunk stuck on the bottom of my frying pan, along with a yellowish hue, likely from mildly overheating the bare pan while cooking. I tried soaking it for a few hours in water and soap, and scrubbing really hard with a plastic scouring pad, all to no avail. How do I get it clean? Steel-wool? Different soaking? Special cleanser? Other?
