The family got my grandma a Kindle Fire HD for her birthday, and I have the weekend to load it up with apps before mailing it off to her. I know positively zip about the Kindle, and I'm looking for recommendations and tips. [more inside]

I gave my wife a Kindle Fire 2 (7") for Christmas, and I am thinking about rooting it for her. She does not seem to be too enamored with the Amazon interface, and is thinking she might like a standard, stock Android OS. I know that if we do this, we will likely lose Amazon Prime Instant Videos, which she does not use. If you have rooted a Kindle Fire 2, please share with me what you like and/or dislike about your new set-up. Thanks!

How can I set my Kindle Fire so that the screen doesn't shift from portrait to landscape and back, depending on how I hold it? What I want to do is to lie on my side in bed reading on my Kindle Fire, but the text stays vertical no matter what I do. Is this even possible?

Is it possible to comment using Disqus on a Kindle Fire? The keyboard screen doesn't activate when I tap the comment box. Amazon forums mention the problem, but no solution.

I'm trying to figure out if a iPad is what I'm looking for to help me reduce my physical books, particularly cookbooks and printed (from the internet) recipes. I want to know first whether iPad is the way to go for my specific needs (details within) and then, if an iPad is what I want, which generation iPad & apps would help me do what I want. Or maybe there is a better solution? [more inside]

So, DC Comics rebooted their entire universe: Awesome! I got an Amazon Kindle Fire for Christmas: Awesome! Is there any way to read these comics on my Kindle Fire?
I am not interested in solutions that involve torrenting or rooting the device.
